You don't think KY had a role in us shooting so poorly and them shooting so well both times in both games??? And, if you don't think we knew very well what KY was going to do given when we played them then I don't know what to say. Don't care about UCLA...b-ball is largely about match ups and we don't match up well with the KY players.
I'll agree that they had a role because they obviously beat us twice, I just believe the adjustments can be made by us on both ends.
To be fair, we cut it to 74-73 with 28 secs left in the 2nd half in the first matchup at home. That was when they had Jaxon Robinson.
We had the lead, 60-58 with 4:51 left in the 2nd half in the 2nd matchup at Rupp until they pulled away.

They get their 3-pt shots off screens or drive & kick situations.
Defensively, we need to fight through screens more aggressively and not help off any drive to the basket.

We stopped helping in the 2nd half at Rupp and forced them to score 1-on-1 which is how we were able to come from behind and take the lead. They just made more contested shots, particularly Brea from 3.
We also decided to take less 3-pt shots and have guys like Gainey and ZZ just drive the ball. Their defense on the drive is nonexistent.

So yes, I agree that stylistically, they're a bad matchup given how we usually defend (helping on drives, fighting through screens). I just hope we make the adjustments, though.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but my memory was Kentucky sagged off the perimeter daring us to shoot 3’s and we shot them significantly below our average? I don’t recall them locking us down defensively?

Not to my memory. They aggressively played passing lanes and were lateral to try and take our screen game away and keep us from swinging the ball. We had a hard time getting into our offense.

We shot a lot of those bad late clock ISO 3’s and once we started attacking, we had plenty of drive and kick 3’d that we did just miss

Heard that it was the first time UT and UK have met in the post-season non-SEC tourney related...but then I heard that it's the first post-season/post-SEC tourney between UT and -any- SEC team. Is that accurate? Seems implausible.
Sounds right to me, if 14 SEC teams hadn't gotten in, Elite 8 would have been our first SEC match-up. They kept teams from the same conference away from early round match-ups for decades

Kevin Sweeney has a good 15 min film breakdown on the Trilly discord about how UK killed us with dribble handoff action the first 2 games and their shooting was likely higher than usual because they were getting great looks every time down the court. He then showed some film from our game against Wofford and they used a lot of the same action to generate good looks and get easy paint touches. He said he picked UT > UK in his bracket, thinking simple shot variance and adjustments would lead to a Vols win, but after the film breakdown, he would change his pick to UK if he could.

I agree with him as much as I hate to. Kentucky made some tough shots in those games but not an inordinate amount of tough shots. They were consistently getting good looks. Maybe we have answer for it this time around or maybe they just have a bad shooting night. Regardless, sitting here on Wednesday evening, I give the edge to Kentucky.

The best NBA shooters don’t shoot 50% on wide open 3s, and I’m sure they made some guarded ones. I’m also sure we didn’t play well against them on defense, but it would have only taken one more miss or so for us to win that first game. We literally could play the same and shoot a guarded 3 percentage like 33% and probably win that one also.

I think the fact that the games were that close despite the schematic issues they cause us on defense shows how much we should still be favored, even if at 60-40.

Yeah my issue with the tape is it didn’t really touch on the Vols poor shooting variance and was focused on UK exploiting our defense and the lack of adjustments, even up to last weekend. Definitely paints a grim picture for us on that end of the court, but if we shoot the ball better there’s no reason we can’t win. I also believe that CRB will make some adjustments on D with a week to prepare for this.

I mean I'm not sure Kats shoot 50% from 3 again, not sure we shoot under 25% from 3 again....

Perfect world we see it rebalance and we shoot hot from 3 and they have an off night. Like most seasons though we're in the Sweet Sixteen and that's a good spot to be, I'll try to just enjoy the game and hope we're the team with more points at the end

We always shoot a lot of threes late in the clock. Most I would classify as forced throws rather than shots. That is one reason why our percentage of threes made is lower than expected.

They def sagged off Jahmai but I don't recall them intentionally playing off Chaz, Gainey or Ziegler.
