The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Kind of a random question, but how likely is it that we are going to be in Lexington or Raleigh for the first two rounds of the tournament? All the other sites seem far less likely, but I guess anything is possible.

I’m planning a bachelor party for a buddy of mine who is a big Tennessee fan and thought about going to either place to see TN play, but I don’t know if we can really afford to just wait and book accommodations after selection Sunday.

Shame on you, Mookie, repent!

Oh, gotcha. I'm probably being a little harsh on the defense, but UF just never looked uncomfortable on O to me
I think that's because they owned the boards (19 ORs), and dominated the paint. We held them in check early on when they were shooting jumpers. They started something like 4/15. Once they started going inside and attacking the basket, they took control and they almost always got two opportunities to score. 39.7% and 30% from 3 is a good enough effort to win on D, most nights.

Some of us mentioned this in the game thread.

But my biggest concern is this seems like last years team's biggest concern. Relied on Knecht last year and had nobody to pick up the scoring slack when he was cold. Same thing tonight with Lanier, we've relied on him all season so far. And now nobody picked up the slack when he had a cold night.

Dropped to 33rd for now in KP Offensive Efficiency

We’ve dropped from a Top 10 offense to 33 in about 2.5ish weeks. I really had bought into the idea that this team was more balanced offensively than last year’s team and more well-rounded, but I no longer believe that to be the case. I really don’t know where this team turns if Lanier is having an off night.

Yeah the trend line down does concern me. Lanier was never going to sustain his insane shooting numbers through conference play either. Hopefully this one game is enough regression for him for a bit lol

We just seem to have a lot more holes to fill offensively than I thought we did after the first few weeks of the season. Dubar, Boswell, and Mashack all seem to be non-existent scoring threats. That’s 1/3 of your 9 man roster.

Agreed. Depth/lack of options is by far my biggest concern going forward. We need one of those guys to step up and contribute nightly if we are gonna reach the ceiling for this team.

Texas is not good and Terry is probably a dead man walking if they don’t beat us - they’d all but ensure an 0-5 start to SEC play with a loss Saturday. We can basically end their season early with a win Saturday, but they’ll be charged up with the number 1 team in town and trying desperately to avoid that disastrous start. Wish I could say I’m confident, but that would be a lie after last night.

I think long term offensive outlook will come down to Igor and ZZ hitting outside shots at something around 33%. If they don't then the offense is going to be a slog game to game.

We beat both Alabama and Kentucky on the road last year with Knecht not having his best game. Scored 100+ in Rupp

One thing that sucks and could not have been controlled is what happens when you lose 2 promising sophomores like Carr and Estrella.

Probably doesn't change getting blasted by Florida but having an offensive oriented played like Carr who maybe could get hot when others aren't. Similarly having a different talented big like Estrella to bang and bring a different dimension to the offense would have been nice to see.

Yeah...Alabama is another team that's going to give us fits like we saw last night. Them and Florida are the 2 best rebounding teams in the SEC and both have 4 bigs they rotate in regularly.

I think 2 things could have improved the game last night, more rim driving threats...and being able to play 2 bigs to help with rebounding.

2 bigs wasn't an option because Cade is banged up and JP is out...as for the rim driving we saw it at times, but Florida had a big lead early and just clogged the paint so it would have been uphill sledding. Especially with how few whistles we got to open the game.

Mashack is currently a 0 on the offensive end and we're consistently playing 5v4 with defenses loading up the paint against us because of it. Love the defense he brings as always, but we really need him to sort out some kind of role on that end. He can't keep driving to 4 feet away from the basket before hesitating and throwing it back out beyond the 3 point line.
