The Official #1 Tennessee @ Kentucky Thur-Sat Game Thread (Thur. 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Fri. 6:30PM EST SEC NETWORK+) (Sat. 2PM EST SEC NETWORK +)

No offense but sitting Luc would be ridiculous. He’s only one of 3 players with a hit last night. He also had a walk and a hard liner to 3rd. You dont bench your veteran 1B who’s a team leader on the field and in the clubhouse. Team will regroup and play hard. Off nights happen but CTV will not overreact or panic.
Luc also had a big hand in the series-clinching win against Auburn.

Do you think the lack of fans changed anything for the Vols?

Obviously this is the wildcats super bowl, they didn’t need any motivation to give their best all season.

But Tennessee players have become rock stars playing in sold out arenas.

I don't believe it was lack of fans. They just couldn't cash in when they needed it.

Agree here. Lots of walks on both sides that elongated innings and increased pitch count. Honestly I don't think either team played well unless you consider getting yourself in a jam and wiggling out good baseball. That's like scrambling in golf...you're more lucky than good.

Mabrey, Joyce, and Kirby will definitely be available for at least an inning. Gotta hope Blade gives us 5 strong innings, then Dollander can give us another inning or 2. That would leave 2 or 3 innings for the bullpen guys, which they should be able to manage. Then Game 3 would be a game that you hope Beam can go 6, 7 would be fantastic. Zander could give us an inning, and then you could just go with whoever thinks they are good to go.

Sunday might be an opportunity to get some guys like Evans, Smith, or Fanning some work in an SEC game to see what they can do. Especially if our bats can take advantage of UK’s worn down arms and get a big lead.

I know we haven’t been in many one run games but definitely maybe a concern for post season play since we are 0-3 by my count in 1 run games. Definitely live and die by the sword for sure. Hopefully they push through and dominate the rest of the season and play well in the tournament but we have to win some 1 run games or that will start to creep in our minds as play gets tougher and win or go home Type fashion.
We beat James Madison (10 innings), Ole Miss, and Missouri by 1 run. No concerns.

The midweek Feb games at LNS had much better atmospheres and were better attended.

If you tune in trying to watch our game on Sunday you will have a hard time finding it! 😜

Lmao...weve hit homers in every ballpark this year...including an mlb park. What a stupid thing to say.
It's not fully wrong. 90 HRs in 32 Games at LNS (2.81/gm). Only 18 in 14 games away from LNS (1.29/gm). Now, 1.29/gm is usually very acceptable, but when that's your foundation of offense, it's less than half what you do at home. Big difference.

we didn’t hit one in either game in Omaha last year.
just stating facts.

As I recall, Evan was the only one to even reach the warning track. Big field.

However, more importantly, they faced tremendous pitching in Omaha. Both, Virgina and Texas threw good arms who kept the ball low. Virgina started a lefty who truly bothered our left handed guys. Our left handed DH enjoyed Omaha, but all of the others struggled.

For anyone that wants to complain or get down about this loss in any way, just look at the Game 3s against Auburn/Florida, or the 1-run victories over James Madison, Ole Miss, and Missouri. We could have just as easily lost all of those games but we managed to pull them out. It’s part of baseball and that’s why nobody goes undefeated. I can take some solace in knowing that in 2 out of our 3 SEC losses, the teams that beat us had to do so in their final AB. And another thing, this is our first TRUE road loss. That’s incredible they’ve made it this many games without doing so. There are still 2 opportunities to get wins and win the series.

The TV announcers have said something repeatedly about baseball and that it's a game where there is a lot of failure. When a player is hitting .400, they're failing to get a hit 60% of the time. An MLB team that wins 70% of their games is considered amazing.

For the past few weeks Vitello has said he's got to figure out how to get some very good players some at bats and that as a coach, it's hard to keep everyone happy and that's important because the reason the Volunteers are so good is because of their depth.

With the transfer portal, unhappy players can easily transfer.

I expect to see more bench players over the next 3 weeks because Tennessee has the luxury of locking down a post season spot so early.

One way to fail in the post season is to not get more players, more at bats because in the next 5-6 weeks of baseball, players unexpectedly will miss some games due to injury or something else. When that happens, he wants his team prepared. That's why he allowing and will continue to allow players with a fairly low batting average like Booker to continue to get at bats. In order for players to perform well as a starter, they need to actually be a starter.
