Well, if you weren’t just second guessing for the heck of it:

The worst that happens is a HR that ties the game.
If you give up the HR, you want it to be on your best pitch, not a secondary, especially for Snead, who overwhelmingly throws fastballs.

Also, going to you 2d best pitch 2-2 and missing makes the 3-2 fastball almost inevitable to the batter. You don’t want a fb hitter sitting fb with tying runs on base.

newcomer, Texas, won 66 games in 1983, did some research and also seen Wichita State teams had a couple that won 70+ games way back in the day, in 1982, they went 73-14 was runner up to The U.
