The Official #1 Tennessee vs #19 Auburn Weekend Series Thread (Friday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Saturday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Sunday 1PM EST SEC NET+)

A loss always sucks, but I feel fine. It’s not like we were embarrassed. It was a hard fought game, but the pitching tonight left to be desired. It happens. I don’t take Auburn lightly, but this team is ridiculously talented. They’ll bounce back tomorrow.
Correct...& happy birthday to ya, gal.

Meh it was just one game. However some good points were made last night and things our staff can and will learn from. I would like to see w
Walsh in more 3 out settings. I feel like using Joyce to set up or even close from time to time wouldn't be a bad thing. I still don't understand bunting Ortega

Players make errors, they swing at questionable pitches.. Coaches make head scratching decisions.... It's baseball and no team is infallible no matter how loaded they are.
They will bounce back today, I expect to see them more focused.
Weather permitting they'll take another series.

I wonder if Dollander throws an inning or two today ? Or would that be more likely Tuesday ? I know Beam will get the start.

Well said (or technically written).

I hope we go after their first baseman at the plate and not walk him. Made us look weak IMO.

Should have used Joyce in the 9th. in my humble opinion .
I was thinking Joyce for the 9th but the coach knows what he's doing. Biggest thing about a lose you can always go back and say I should've would've or could've . It's baseball and that's what fans do. Get ready if both pitchers are on today it could be a classic . GBO !!!

Hey, @taylorvol were you at the game tonight? If so, at the end, did you see the yelling "fans" under the press box towards your side finally get on someone's last nerve? Among other things, they started yelling at a teenager in the stands, which was probably the last straw.
I was there and saw some of that. I know in games past those guys have been loud, but wasn’t sure WHY they were busting our own fans’ chops? Interestingly enough, Donde Plowman and her husband sit within 15 feet of those guys.

UT has attitude - they talk ish. They do not bat flip at the opponents dugout and never have.

You were then talking about composure. This team hasn’t lost composure and neither do their coaches.

They win - period end of story. Neither their coach, not the team, make excuses.

And this loss means nothing. It’s actually good for them. They need to lose more games and will lose more games before tourney time.

This was a really good baseball game. If you don’t recognize that then you don’t know anything about baseball.
Couldn't say it any better. When you're as dominant as this team has been or any team playing on this level some time you start sleepwalking and need some fire to wake up.

Good question. Prior to the series start, Coach V had mentioned wanting to Involve Dollander in some way. Perhaps it’s today. One thing to keep in mind is that the Thursday-Saturday weekend series begin this week at Kentucky, and that may have an impact on today.

Hope Beam bounces back strong today. It would be great if he can go for more innings. I wonder which of our relievers will be available today. Ben, Kirby, and … ?

It’s already raining and thundering here in Knoxville this morning. Hope it clears up by game time,

What went down? Hopefully nothing too bad.

Regarding the bat flip near the dugout and resulting shenanigans, I will give the umpiring crew props for doing an incredible job of taking control of a really volatile situation and de-escalating things quickly. It could have gotten really ugly without their actions.

Alright, I’m up, less irritated about last night, and ready for first pitch. The thing about this team, we’re so good that every single loss stings.
Yep always stings when you lose . This is baseball and most casual fans just don't understand how often a very under maned team can get a surprise win . I'm sure not saying the barnyard boys aren't pretty darn good.

This game was somewhat of an anomaly. We played less-than-clean baseball. Gave up 8 walks with 6 strikeouts. Tidwell struggled with his command. In the end we got beat on a 3-run homer by a guy who has now hit only 3 shots all year. So, we really got beat by what we normally do better than anyone else. In my opinion it was a “perfect storm” kind of game for Auburn.

The Ortega at bat was a good call,he just doesn't execute . If he swings away and hits into a double play every one would be saying we should have bunted . It's baseball .

I am not sure what was going on. We are all waiting to walk down some steps and there was a lot of back-and-forth going on between one of the talkative guys and a few Tennessee fans. Birds were thrown, words screamed, and just a bad-looking scene between our own fans. My guess is that people within ear distance just get nauseated at the constant, non-stop heckling going on.

Well said, lack of execution makes any decision look bad…..on the field or off the field and 100% excution is never going to happen anyway, especially in sports.

Brings back memories of our 90’s football team. At least one loss on baseball doesn’t ruin the season.
