The Official #1 Tennessee vs #19 Auburn Weekend Series Thread (Friday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Saturday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Sunday 1PM EST SEC NET+)

If the mentality of this program is to lose composure when another team had a big hit then your right. Celebrate when you do well and who cares if they celebrate? Stop them.

The mentality that I have seen is to make our own big plays and come back and win the game. Not get involved in stupid things that do not impact the game

No, the mentality of this program is you don’t take crap like that sitting down. Someone flips a bat INTO your dugout to taunt you, you get up and go back at them. Like it or not, TV has created a culture of guys who fight and who have an us against the world mentality. They’re 39-4. I’d say it works.

They didn’t just “celebrate.” This team “celebrates.” No UT bat has been flipped into an opposing dugout after a home run. That was intentional taunting, not a celebration.

What did he do with the bat? I want to know what you think he did with the bat. If you watch the video, not listen to the announcers, because I was 50 feet from the scene. He picked up the bat and tossed it behind the home plate circle on the T logo which is not in the middle of any players. He could have done a lot of things with it. Would I be upset if one of our players threw a bat at the other team, absolutely. Are we cocky on the field? Absolutely. Should be the players get upset, maybe not to the extent that they did but yes. I will ask what you think he should have done with the bat that was thrown by another player within 2 feet of him in his dugout? Baseball and college sports in general are very emotional driven.
Don't always listen to announcers look for yourself they try to build drama. The camera angle was also deceptive . I've coached in these types of games. The players love to know the coach has there back. Your a wise man and have a great son . Thanks for all your contributions.

Hide it and not let them have it back until tomorrow. Ok that's just me being petty but still

Nice try. How about leaving the bat where it is and be an adult. I've been in and around baseball for over 50 years. Seen many things. NEVER saw a head coach pick up an opposing teams bat and chuck it at them. I have now. I was at the game as well. Your watered down version of what CTV did is not even close to reality

If you are somehow condoning or excusing what CTV did with the bat then you have no right to complain about other UT fans. What he did was petulant and childish. Doesn't matter AT ALL what the Awbarn player did. Be an adult. Be the head coach.
The bat was flipped almost into our dugout. Basically landed at CTV‘s feet. That’s not acceptable. Auburn player should have been given a warning. CTV tossed it back along with a few words. He tossed it near the logo—not at Auburn’s players. Team feeds off his passion, energy, and swag. Not. A. Big. Deal.

Not sure what you meant by “stats and 1.25 will get u a big slam”? hitters will hit HRs off of Nolan Ryan, it happens. UT has elite pitching.
Big slam drink...go check the stats on walks by pitching over the last few games is all I'm saying...they need to work on reducing that "stat"....otherwise the loss column stats area could increase dramatically....for some reason loss column has a close relationship with high base on balls stat...

But let me remind you these guys get the journey. They understand that it is about a lot more than baseball. Someone late last night share this picture with me. You guys may see a bunch of cocky guys on the field, which I would agree with at times. But what you may not seem is after the game over for the game and even sometimes an hour after the game they are still loving on kids. I know this is my kid and I will always be proud of what he does in the circle in the middle of the field but I couldn’t be more proud of what he does well nobody’s really looking.

Spot on. I always say they are full of swag, passion, and brashness between the lines but are respectful, kind, and courteous off the field. Their interactions with young fans after the game is remarkable.

If it was wrong for the Auburn player to flip the bat towards the UT dugout, it was even more wrong for the HEAD COACH to chuck the bat at the opposing team.

i trust Preacherman 1000%. He had a front row seat to witness it right behind home plate. Replays back him up as well.

I would agree if it was at the opposing team, but it landed on the logo. CTV wasn’t tossing it at their players or dugout.

Watch the video again. Does the bat continue to flip and bounce around amongst the Auburn players? Doesn't really matter though. Is it common practice for a head coach to pick up the opposing teams bat and throw it towards the dugout?

For Pete’s sake, it landed on the UT logo, not *at* Auburn players. 🙄
I would be livid if one of UT’s players flipped their bat into or towards the opposing team’s dugout. That’s a HUGE line crossed. I‘d sit the player and ask him to personally apologize after the game.

I saw that as well...was very surprised bat didn't hit a player....time for everyone to learn how to handle emotions before further incidents occur... from now on pressure will only increase...final weeks of regular season, tourney, regional....only winners advance...losers get to brag over stats at home...

I would expect other coaches would have done the same considering the bat landed almost at his feet. Bat would have gone in our dugout if it wasn’t for the netting.

I feel the same way. That is a definite no-no. There is swagger and bravado, but that is a line crossed.

I’ve noticed it also. A direct correlation to walks & runs scored by opponents….and appearances by the bull pen

You realize that is about as mild a reaction to a bat flip that ends up a couple of feet from a dugout as there can be. If that had happened in MLB, where everyone is an adult, it would have been an instant bench clearing brawl.

I trust CFA to handle. Walks haven’t been a problem all season. Lowest ratio of BBs in NCAA. A couple of games isn’t a trend, and our pitching coach emphasizes throwing strikes.
