The Official #1 Tennessee vs GA Tech Regional Game Thread Sunday June 5th (7PM EST ESPNU)

Hats off to Mabrey, Dickey, Booker and Moore for their contributions tonight! Booker hustling his ass off to beat the force at 2B might have been the POTG.

Great to see part time players come thru when given the chance! Still a tough road ahead, but this a great formula for a championship when 25 to 27 guys all make plays.

If we suspend a player in the post-season for simply flipping the bird, I have lost all faith in this world. How freaking soft that would be. Grow some thicker skin if that hurts your feelings. Ain’t no crying in baseball.
If ESPN can basically accuse Evan of a ped suspension and make it all go way with a weakly read 5 second apology, Beck should have to do nothing more. Really shouldn't have to even do that, sorry if anyone was traumatized by seeing a middle finger. I'm not convinced he wasn't just pointing at the power T on his helmet.

ESPN really needs to shut up with the moral high ground BS.

It was a weird game. Paul Bunyon (Zach Maxwell) had electric stuff for Tech. Hit triple digits all night for 6 innings and we were fooled by his slider. No earned runs on him and not a single barreled baseball.

Cortland had his worst game of the season. 3 of their 6 runs were unearned due to Cortland’s 3 errors. But, survive and advance. This team doesn’t quit and when we got Big Boy out of the game our offense came alive.

Biggest takeaway is that college umpires are still trash.
We watched the game as I assume many fans did on TV, and I agree with the last night umpires crew. Had a hard time on balls and strikes calls because on TV it looks like home plate is a dark collar and not white, however, the home plate ump was not consistent at all.

Nice observation to you too. Baseball is all about prep before the pitch.
I think the bigger picture with Lawson is the lingering concern of so many inaccurate throws to first last night. Almost reminds me of the baseball version of the YIPS, which does happen. I hope he’s able to mentally flush last night and have a great Super Regional performance.

Yeah that was weird. The runner on first was stealing, and the guy on 2nd didn’t go. So one of them messed up. Tech got lucky the batter made contact

Left handed batter. Bag was Lawson responsibllity on steal but ball was hit to him. Ortega was probably too far away to get there with runner moving. Good play by Tech.

Nashville Fox 17 reporting Honcho flipped off Tech players as he made it to second late in the game. Anybody see that? I’ve given the bird to a few folks and my years and understand the passion and intensity of the game last night. Better than slugging someone.

Great game! One of the best ever! Not that Tennessee played flawless baseball but, they kept fighting, making plays, overcoming. Great model for other athletics and academics. Love my Vols. Thankful to VN family for sharing during the game. Go Vols! Win it all!

Could be wrong, but Cortland may have hesitated on that throw because he thought Ortega would be on 2nd and they'd be working to turn a DP, probably saw Ortega wasn't there and then just tried to get it to Luc but was already too late.

I'm sure had he just been trying to get the easiest out he'd gone to 3B.

Home plate looked invisible from my television. That last kid for Georgia Tech got rung up like he was shopping for groceries though....🤣

So are you suggesting one benefit of the steal was to draw the SS to the bag and give the batter a bigger gap to hit toward? Also, the runner at 2nd may have delayed on purpose rather than missing a sign?

That IS a smart play if you have a lot of faith in your batter. If he doesn’t make contact somebody is screwed.

What a win last night! Once the GA Tech's starting pitcher left after 100+ pitches, I sensed our guys would have an opportunity to score. That sense grew once GT's relief pitcher started walking our guys. Much like Kirby the night before, Will Mabrey was fantastic pitching in relief. Redmond had ice water in his veins getting their guy to strike out looking to end the threat and secure the W.

Overall, another gutsy win. Congrats to the team for advancing to Super Regionals. Bring on the Fighting Irish!
