The Official #11 Tennessee @ #25 Texas A&M Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, ESPN

Really does feel like this school is due to get one of those Final Four berths after limping through January/February like so many programs have. Get Phillips/JJJ back, string together a few good wins and have some lucky breaks with seeding, somehow wind up in Houston after this gross month.

There are far worse things than being the "nobody believed in us, everyone wrote us off, well HOW DO YOU LIKE US NOW?" team.

The day of the TX game it was announced that Barnes was going with a new lineup. I am just telling you what was announced that morning and ZZ was replacing Key in the lineup

Again, ZZ started at MSU and has started every game since. Key was sick that night so ZZ started and played well. Played all 40 minutes. Barnes has started him in every game since then.

Point being, no lineup change has occurred in the last month that wasn’t due to injuries. ZZ’s presence in the starting lineup hasn’t sent us in a spiral.

ZZ is better coming off the bench and he has even said he rather come off the bench. Either way right now he is stinking the court up

I've been saying that a while now. Every time I do I get blasted. This team just isn't good, time to root for the baseball team!
What ? Why not root for the basketball team, too ? Even if they are done, I'm still going to watch every game and root for 'em. Oh, my bad, you would rather be right

This team is about done. They will be painful to watch down the stretch. The final loss will just be giving us all some mercy.

LOL

Dale Ellis, Allan Houston and Chris Lofton, Tony White comes to mind.

Dale Ellis really didn’t make a name for himself as a shooter while at UT. He played with his back to the basket much of the time. But you can add Mike Edwards, Jimmy England, Michael Brooks, Billy Justus, Rodney Woods, and Mike Jackson.

How is this possible? So many points from the line and such a huge discrepancy.

This is the 2nd game in a row that we've lost because of a HUGE difference in FT attempts/FT made: Kentucky had 35 free throws and, as I recall, outscored us by 20 points from the FT line! That's absurd. Same thing tonight: A&M had 34 FTs and outscored us by 18 from the line!

Didn't see either game so I can't say anything about the officiating--but c'mon: 20 more free throws? It's the reason we've lost the last two games.

To be fair we foul a lot (which causes teams to have tons of attempts) and we don’t drive the ball much (resulting in low attempts for us). There is missed calls on both sides every game but refs didn’t loose us this game.

Right, Ellis was a post player here with a great mid-range game. Of course, there was no 3-pointer in college, then. Became a great 3-point shooter in the NBA. In fact, he may have retired as the all-time leader in 3's made, iIrc. Tony White was a great pure scorer, above average shooter, but not a great one, imo. Brooks was the best pure shooter in the early 80s, once again imo. All the rest you named were before my time. Although, I love Justus, Fulton alum

Tony White kind of leaned forward into defenders. He therefore scored a bunch from the free throw line. He was also very effective from the 3PL. Unfortunately for him, there wasn’t one in his first 3 years. And Devoe hated it once it was added in 1986. Devoe said that he’d sit any player that checked where their feet were before taking perimeter shots. It’s hilarious reading the posters triggered by CRB demanding disciplined play. Their heads would explode watching a Devoe coached team. Probably a Kevin O’Neill team as well.

Michael Brooks could flat out stroke it and also played just before the 3-point line. His and Houston’s shots were smooth as silk.

Lofton didn’t have perfect form but he was highly effective. He’d lean back a bit which made his shot nearly impossible to block. And his range was amazing (very similar to Michael Brooks).

KY and A&M have guys that drive to the basket. Tennessee, not so much.

Could it be that we are actually a sloppy, undisciplined team that sometimes fouls a lot, especially when playing from behind?

I think he will go to the bench but will get Keys mins moving forward. Key isn’t producing I’m sad to say
That would not be a bad thing right now. Key has had some fantastic games, but they are few and far between unfortunately. OTOH, Mashack keeps points off the board with his defense, and his offense is improving.

He is too small to be trying to shoot over people from the 3 for sure. If he isn’t wide open it’s just getting swatted.
