The Official #11 Tennessee @ #25 Texas A&M Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, ESPN

LOL

Dale Ellis, Allan Houston and Chris Lofton, Tony White comes to mind.
You and several others who posted behind failed to mention Bernard King and Ernie Grunfield who played together. Not sure if King stayed his final year but he put up a lot of points while here. I'll check and make an edit.

Grunfield is UT's 2nd all-time leading scorer at over 22 ppg. BK is not in top 5 likely because of early departure but had 62 double-doubles in 76 games.

Honestly feeing like we don’t deserve to be ranked, at least nowhere near the top 10, after our recent run. 2-5 in February with losses to uf, vandy, uk, mizzou, tamu and close wins over au and bama at home. Need jjj and Julian healthy again badly. Might need to bench key as well. Good defense doesn’t mean much if you can hit any shots (or a @&$? Free throw for that matter).

People are complaining about ORN and Santi and Z, but.... Vescovi didn’t practice Monday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville due to illness. Still, he started and played a team-high 36 minutes while finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Zakai Zeigler scored 14 points and had four assists in 34 minutes. Olivier Nkamhoua scored 13 points and had four rebounds.

Then we complain that Rick doesn't develop players but...

Tobe Awaka had 10 points and seven boards.

Obviously Aidoo got in foul trouble and Key can have occasional good games, but not enough to get substantial playtime. Mashack is doing much better on offense and his defense helps keep scoring down from other team.

Although JJJ sometimes throws bricks and Phillips messed up badly during the Missouri game-- We need them out there. At least it gives you other options.

Mashack is the one I see working the inside, ZZ does some but tends to get a little too far in with the bigs. Team needs balance, most of the game everyone is sitting outside, got to have some working the inside to shoot not just running in and throwing it out for a three.

Never said it a good thing, but don’t dog him for it. It’s not his fault he is the best out there, but he is

Im not dogging him, but im not going to sit here and talk about how great he is. Being the best on a bad team doesn't make you great. He's a good shooter and role player, but he is not and should not be the best player on any top 25 team. It isnt fair to him or the rest of the team, and to me it speaks volumes about the talent development of this staff.

Scoring a combined 28 points for Zeigler and Vescovi looks ok from the outside but when you realize they took 30 shots from the floor including 6-21 from 3 is pretty pedestrian. That is they issue. It isn't their fault. They aren't meant to be leading scorers but when you have no other options

For those who were discussing the ft discrepancy;

A&M is #1 in the nation in ft’s made and #2 in the nation in ft’s attempted. It’s their game. They drive to the rim and get fouled.

Whereas the Vols seemed to settle for jump shots.

Considering we are one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the country I am not sure getting to the free throw line is the greatest strategy

His D has been suspect too.

Dale Ellis really didn’t make a name for himself as a shooter while at UT. He played with his back to the basket much of the time. But you can add Mike Edwards, Jimmy England, Michael Brooks, Billy Justus, Rodney Woods, and Mike Jackson.

I was thinking primarily of 3 pt shooters and conflated Ellis' career from the NBA and the Vols where he played prior to the 3 point shot.

I was tired and ticked off last night lol

I left Ernie and Bernie out since they preceded the 3 point shot and screwed up and included Ellis anyway.

I think those two go to the top of any list easily.

Was thinking primarily of 3 point shooters when I posted.

Everything is a jump shot or a fade away. We complain about the foul difference but we rarely have anyone that can create their own shot or drive AND FINISH at the basket.
ORN and Uros don’t try and finish strong and at the rim. It’s fade aways, hook shots and attempted layups that tend to rim out.

Sorry but he is the best player on a top 25 team. Now if you’re gonna say we aren’t a top 25 team, who’s side are you on

Ziegler is really too short to finish unless he’s using the floater and driving to the rim isn’t Santi’s game. Mashack has gotten better at it and JJJ is good at it.

Where’s that stat- that we are one of the worst?

We are 183rd. Houston, Rutgers, Indiana, Vandy, Auburn, Marquette, Virginia, Okie State, Kentucky, TCU, Arkansas, St. Mary’s, Gonzaga, Illinois, Iowa State, Mississippi State are all behind us and Bama is 12 spots ahead. Some of you just spout off things with no research.

Plus, our guys who need to drive to the basket- JJJ, JP, Vescovi, ZZ, Key all shoot 76% and above. ON shoots 70%. Uros, Awaka, and Mashack bring it down. Facts are pesky.

There is no one on this team that can create their own shot. Tn needs a wing that can create and get down hill to the basket.

A player that can create is much more effective when there are two players that can create. That's why ZZ was more effective last year.
