Yeah. Barnes is about the same age and personality as my high school coach. He called defenses like that gimmicks and said real men play man to man. I don’t see Coach Barnes trying anything like that.
I don’t consider it stubbornness. It was confidence as you said, he believed that man should work in all scenarios. We might go to 2-3 if we were outsized or 1-3-1 trap if we needed to create turnovers. But help/man would work against anyone if we all did our jobs.I don’t think it’s stubbornness. I think that they invest so much time teaching the concept that it doesn’t make much sense to switch up to something different.
