I don’t consider it stubbornness. It wasn’t confidence as you said, he believed that man should work in all scenarios. We might go to 2-3 if we were outsized or 1-3-1 trap if we needed to create turnovers. But help/man would work against anyone if we all did our jobs.
I see that in Barnes. He’ll question your manhood if you back down from the challenge and you won’t play for him after that.
I think that’s why there’s such a short leash on so many. A weakest link scenario.
