The Official #15 Tennessee vs Iona Weekend Series Thread (Friday 4:30PM) (Saturday 1PM) (Sunday 1PM)

Agreed on all fronts. I think Steenstra’s future is at 1st. His “position player” skill set combined with size makes him ideal at first IMO. Combine that with his struggles to stay down on the ball sometimes at SS, I just see 1st being a better long term fit. Chambers JUCO coach has said he’s greatly improved his glove up the middle so I think he fits in at 2nd. If his bat translates to SEC ball he can continue where Max has left off and be a Robert Moore clone in terms of power and avg. From a bat perspective only, I believe Trey and Lawson can give us more than Jake and Liam in terms of power. I really think given the reps those two can be 8-10 HR/year guys.

Trey is well on his way to proving me right from back in June but I may wind up having undersold him on his power.

The game was painfully cold by the end. Glad Tennessee won, and I feel bad for Iona getting into a three game series with UT. IMO, they are more suited to be an early season midweek opponent, rather than three games.

Iona once was a decent program in their conference (not big conference caliber), but they have fallen on hard times.

In terms of getting ready for the teams in next weekend’s games in Texas, I wish Tennessee had higher caliber opponents this weekend and Tuesday.

ETSU will give us a go, they always do, but I agree. We’ll know where we stand early on after Texas.

Yep. This weekend will go down as a big win but it’s a big loss in preparing for next week and beyond.

This team , the new players , having early success is Great to watch. Building confidence early could pay dividends.

The Pitching Staff is legit.
The Offense is too...Think about having to throw strikes to these dudes.
Defense is solid across the board , yes they will make a blunder ever now and again but who doesn't. They are as good as any in the SEC defensively.

Something most don't think about , these hitters have faced our staff all fall and spring!! Go Vols!!!

Coach TV did every thing in his power not to throw up more points than Coach Heupel would.
I feel bad for IONA. These next 2 games needs to be 7 inning games and call a run rule after 5 innings like High School just so the Vols don’t continue to do this. If this was another SEC school I would be all for it and scoring as many runs as possible, but IONA shouldn’t have never scheduled UT but Kudos to them for doing so. There first year head coach is gonna take it in the chin alot this year.
