The Official #16 Tennessee @ Louisiana State Game Thread, 2:00 PM ET, ESPN

Yeah I’m actually not trying to argue with you here, to me the NCAA never had any credibility to begin with . In my opinion the organization is a hypocritical paper tiger yet the UTAD seems to view them as a judge, jury & executioner . They may put the AU’s & the LSU’s of their world in their place one day and hand out major penalties but given the elapsed time between when the allegations were made and now I doubt it. AU imposed a post season ban in a year that they most likely would not have qualified for anyway. What Wade & LSU did was / is so unethical that LSU should have sh*t canned him regardless of what the AA has to say on the matter . IMO what Pearl did @ AU should also fall under that same category but Pearson took the fall. AU told the AA to pound sand & Pearl took AU to the final 4. That isn’t to say that it may not be vacated but as it stands it is still on the books as such and even if it us vacated the memory will not be removed from the players & fans .

The reality remains that in every instance from innocuous to blatant the UTAD always bows to the AA and other than maybe being able to claim that their ethics remained intact they have nothing to show for it. Meanwhile Will Wade just recorded another victory and AU’s FF banner is still hanging from the rafters . My point was that in the grand scheme of things some fans may take solace in doing things the right way in the eyes of the AA but the vast majority of fans would prefer the FF banner hanging from the rafters .
💯, The people that act all righteous about everything are totally clueless about how the basketball world actually works!

We agree on a lot of this.

Nobody is "clean". Some are substantially more dirty than others. Some are substantially more stupid about it or just flat out lie when called out. This sounds bad, but if you re gonna play the game, you better play it well. And when the time comes (Pearl type situation), take your medicine and move on. Don't put the AD and school in a spot over something silly.

The UT AD has had different leadership as much as its had different football coaches in recent years. So some of these decisions are not being made by the same people. And honestly the 2 most recent big issues (Pearl and Pruitt) are very different.

Why is UK 6-13 with 3 predicted first rounders? Why does Texas have 5 losses with 2 top 22 players? Why is Duke 7-8 with a top 10 player? Why does UF have that many losses with 2 first rounders?

I’m convinced more than ever that top 75 players that develop into very good college players as sophomores/juniors/seniors help you win more than very talented freshmen. You still have to recruit one and dones, but you need a mix on your team. I thought Fulky and Pons would help us do that this year, but I think Fulky is hurt and timid. Pons has been inconsistent.
It takes time to develop chemistry and that lacks in this team and likely the others you mentioned. Even mediocre players can contribute to a winning team but this seems to be lacking .

At least we aren't a bottom feeder. Which is nice....but a Barnes coached team will never go far.
I hate to agree - but I must. Just listened to his postgame and once again, as always, he blamed his players. Seldom, if ever., does he shoulder any of the blame. Anytime we face an opponent with physical guards that can take us to the rim we will lose. No thought of changing defenses . Pathetic in bounds plays. Hard to watch - but I will pull for them regardless.

I read that Fulky was battling several injuries. Pons needs to step up more. This is the team that you think has figured it all out, and then backslides.

Two of my biggest complaints about Barnes...he never takes the blame, and his baseline out of bounds plays are junior pro.

Pearl is a better Xs & Os guy than Barnes, he schemes every game and tries to expose weaknesses.

Barnes’ player development is far superior though.

Pearl is just better at getting highly rated recruits to play into his street ball system.

LAYUP LINES

• Tennessee is No. 11 in the latest NCAA NET ratings, with four wins over teams in the top 35.
• Five-star freshmen Jaden Springer (26.5 ppg) Keon Johnson (19.0 ppg) have combined to average 45.5 points over Tennessee's last two games—both wins. Johnson is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week.
• Over the last four games, sophomore Josiah-Jordan James is averaging 11.8 points, a team-best 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while also shooting .455 (10-22) from 3-point range.
• Senior Yves Pons is a top-10 finalist for the Julius Erving Award and one of 15 candidates for Naismith Men's Defensive Player of the Year. Pons missed Wednesday's game against Georgia with a right knee injury.
• In 111 seasons of varsity basketball, Tennessee has had only one letterman from the state of Louisiana: forward Maurice Robertson (New Orleans) in 1996.

Why has Tennessee not had more basketball lettermen from Louisiana or Mississippi in their history? Do they just not recruit those states in basketball?

Oddly enough that's the exactly opposite of what former coaches of Pearl have said. Mark Pancratz has said that he feels like Cuonzo & Barnes are similar in that they play their style regardless of who they play and that Pearl was always tailoring his scheme to his opponents week to week.

From what I've seen I agree, seems like Barnes is going to play his style of ball.

Barnes was almost too blunt about Fulk post game. He sounds like a coach totally exasperated by a player who is just not performing and there is no rational explanation for it.
Yep, basically said it was mental and alluded to the fact that some players have that DNA and some don’t. Whatever it is, Fulky‘s regression (not just last year to this year), but from a few weeks ago to now has been dramatic. He is nothing more than a role player of late, his defense has been poor, and is going to lose minutes if not corrected, and Barnes alluded to that too.

It just seems this team has had a hard time finding itself, particularly an identity offensively. Really nothing else can explain the inconsistency. A few years ago, both Grant and Admiral were experienced, were clearly leaders, and were alpha males even when they were not playing great. Fulkerson and Pons are good players at times but neither has such qualities....it just is how it is this year.

So something isn't adding up. I've seen people here say he's not 100% and battling injuries and that's why he's not producing; but that's obviously not enough for Barnes because he's clearly frustrated with him. So what is the deal? I know Barnes is old school but I doubt he'd be dogging Fulk if it truly was injury/illness holding him back.

Not sure about better at X’s and O’s. Pearl always plays man to man defense. On offense, he just recruits guys who can shoot at the 1-4 positions. It’s great when his team is hitting shots. It’s not when they miss.
