The Official #17 Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech Game Thread, 8:00 pm ET (9/10/16), ABC

I just hate watching coaches underperform and people make excuses for them when nothing has changed... we've actually regressed. You catch the bowl game? We basically have the same team on the field tonight give or take a few players...

It's not really excuses. It's that insane contract and buyout.

It's absolutely amazing the number of people on this site that get pissed off when we win then claim it's because they're real UT fans.

Absolute bs.

^This. I understand some of the disgruntlement but to be upset at the result? Get over yourselves!

Shoop is no defensive guru, that has become clear. His love for Jumper and even Martin have me questioning his evaluation of talent. None the less the Vols won, covered the spread, created turnovers so for this week all is good.

It's pathetic, I wish Volinbama and the others like him would just go to another team! It takes all the fun out of coming on here. I use to like to come in here and communicate with other Vol fans, but I am going to be scarce around here. I just don't understand. I was ecstatic before coming on here!!

How about throwing to the TE once in a while--good way to beat pass-rush pressure. Our players may beat the opponent's players in a 1v.1 battle--but we sure as hell don't put the defense on its heels with our play-calling--quite the opposite. We are as predictable as we were in the Fulmer years. It's Fulmer/Big 10 offensive football, out of shotgun. We might as well put a cutout of Woody Hayes on our sideline--or Bo Shembechler!

Definitely did not use the TE enough and just about every time we put Kamara in they new the play. Having Kamara and Hurd in at the same time more often can work. Also may need a full back or TE in the backfield more often to block since our Oline still cannot.

I didn't look at this board once during the game and it made the game so much better. Some people would complain about going to heaven. I'm sorry your lives are unhappy so you can only be disgruntled.

I'm glad we won but why do we even have an O.C. You could have yanked anybody out of the stands and called a game the way it was called tonight. That was painful to watch knowing some of the firepower we have.

The defense did well after the first quarter

nice stereotype - just being realistic ... guess we didn't watch the same game. I look at the big picture and the body of work the entire game, not just the score... I also look at other teams and am not in orange denial.

We really didn't watch the same game.
I look at other teams too. I saw GA struggling against a no-name team

I saw a defense in this game that knew how to strip the ball and an offense that capitalized in turnovers. I saw an O-line that was shaky but adjusted. I also saw a team that did not give up when they were down but instead applied more pressure and when they got the lead they didn't hang back and then try not to lose but instead continued to play and took advantage of the breaks that came their way instead of squandering them.

I'm not a soothsayer, I can't predict future games but I can say that I do NOT see the reason to be as negative as you

You've gotta be kidding.

That was a bud foster coached defense and dobbs made them look silly at times.

Sometimes I wonder what game some of you people are even watching.

So the new thing is to give up and ***** after 1 quarter. Then come back and continue to complain about that quarter. We made adjustments and won big. That's all that matters.

VT played horrible just in penalties and turnovers. We got a gift and I am thankful for it. We played well for about 50% of the game. We need to get better in a hurry. Oline is still bad but maybe the coaches found some answers. Martin has to get better in coverage as well.

Colton Jumper exposed again on pass. Kirkland has to get back

How on Earth Is Colton Jumper our second-string MLB?!?! I'm sorry but I have to call him and Coleman Thomas out! I really hope DK jr has a speedy recovery and jumper nor Thomas ever see the field again! Nothing personal but they just aren't SEC material.

I recall seeing several turnovers our guys forced. I don't understand the need to say the turnovers were JUST on VT. Our boys grabbed that ball from under them just as often.

O line was horrendous in the first quarter but they adjusted. That's the mark of a good team, being able to make adjustments

I don't call out on players as a rule
