The Official #17 Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech Game Thread, 8:00 pm ET (9/10/16), ABC

My two cents from this win. Hurd is trying too hard to find an opening. He is a powerful runner and needs to hit the hole hard and stop dancing around the backfield, looking for daylight. The kid is a beast and I really wanted him to get that last yard to put him at 100(unofficially)! The Mack Jr injury concerns me! Kirkland Jr being carted off the field really concerns me! Huge difference in the flow of the defense when jumper is manning the middle. The defense just seems hesitant when he is setting the D. Shy Tuttle is going to be a very very good player in this league. Danny O'Brien!! What can you say about this tough S.O.B.!! He is easily becoming one of my favorite Vols. He comes to work, has a nasty streak in him and just makes plays! Helluva game by O'Brien! Jack Jones needs to play. Dobbs has to stop forcing the passing game and let that part of the game come to him naturally, in the flow of the game, as he opens up secondaries with his legs. Get Kamara touches. TKJr is simply one of those players that will not wow you in the stat sheet but is always around the ball, always in the right position to make plays. Vatech needs to invest in some stickem!! Our offensive staff has to get more creative and expand the playbook going into conference play. Our O-line, somehow, some way, has to learn to get nasty and scrappy. Let's not give up on Richmond yet. Malone is going to be a real go to receiver by the end of the season. Get T. Byrd the ball. I saw flashes of a dominant football team tonight. Flashes of a team that can compete for the SEC east. I also saw flashes of a team that could struggle to finish .500 in conference play. This coaching staff really has me scratching my head at times but also rooting for them to finally put it all together because I think they are all coaches that have grown to love tennessee and truly want to be a part of Tennessee. I came away with a lot of positives but also a lot of things that need to be worked on and corrected. I'm taking the ncaa tourney approach, survive and advance baby! 2-0! Let's work like heck, watch some film and get ready for #3! GBO!!

I recall seeing several turnovers our guys forced. I don't understand the need to say the turnovers were JUST on VT. Our boys grabbed that ball from under them just as often.

O line was horrendous in the first quarter but they adjusted. That's the mark of a good team, being able to make adjustments

I don't call out on players as a rule

Yep, I agree. Our D did force some Turn Overs which was a life saver. Our Oline is not better yet but maybe they can be. Really need to get Hall back and Richmond should improve. Coleman probably needs to be benched.

At the end of the day...they made a huge deal out of this game...national tv...biggest crowd in history...va tech is this and that...blahblahblah...and we kicked their azzes. we need work in some areas for sure...but what looked like a humiliating disaster early on....turned out to be a disaster for THEM....and Vol fans being able to heckle and abuse Hokie fans back to Virginia. Good stuff.

Agree and I'm glad Dobb's connected with Malone and Jennings in the End Zone.

Good points and I pretty much agree. KMAC looked to be OK at the end of the game. Hope it was just a cramp. Will need to play JRM at MLB and McDowell outside is my guess. Colton can play some but not be in there for any significant length of time.

As someone that has worked in sports injuries for 20 years, DK injury is serious. He no doubt tore his medial ligament in his ankle, or a severe sprain at the very least. I am sickened. Go ahead and rip me but I saw the angle of bend. Not good. Sprain out for 4 - 8 weeks. If torn, season.

Did not look good. I was hoping for a low ankle sprain.

Very good summation. Nice work.

I pray you're wrong. Such a sad thing for a young guy

I agree. I would very much like to see JRM play with the disciplined aggression and focus we witnessed him play with last year! He is a HUGE key to our defense and I don't want to see us lose him for any more significant amount of time due to silly penalties or undisciplined play. He is a leader and that's what we need him to do, on and off the field. With that said, I would like to see some of our O-linemen play with a little more of a mean streak and punch somebody in the mouth!!😁

If true, this one is gonna be hard to overcome imo. Kirkland is a difference maker for this defense and you may not agree with me but losing him may be a bigger hurdle than losing maggit last season!? He is a player that puts other players in position to make plays. He is the QB of our defense! If this is the case with his injury, I have no doubts that he will come back from it and will not miss a beat. Be it this season or next. I just don't think a lot of people realize how important a role he plays for this D!
