Or follow stats here: Game Live BaseballShawn Scott on in relief, listen here: Forest City Owls Baseball on Mixlr
You can take stats in summer with a grain of salt. Been at games in several leagues and most are messed up. Saw two pitches that were called strikes with no swing ruled as wild pitches. Two errors issued on runner reaching first and a runner reaching with neither hit or error given. Some times it is lack of knowledge and some guys/gals having to do too many things.
Yep, I remember being a kid, keeping stats for other games after my game was over, it’s an art, but there’s also a lot of knowledge being dropped too, if one pays attention.
Your overall point is well taken, stats without context are meaningless. For me context is watching the games to see what is what…for instance, my expectation for what Kyle Booker should look like in Cal Summer Ball was about right, he should be a great player in that league and he has been. Taylor was a surprise because there was no expectation, excited for him, but it’s not SEC baseball. Beck is about where I thought he would be in the Cape, based on his SEC season.
Sure, there are judgment calls with baseball stats and their quality can be debated. However, if there are official stats being recorded at summer league games that are being reported incorrectly, then that is less than ideal.
