The Official 2021 Summer Ball Thread

Here are almost the final stats on Ryan Miller. These are from yesterday afternoon, but he played last night. These are his Forest City Owls stats. We also had a second team (the Rutherford County Outlaws) that allowed the guys to get additional playing time, but those games and statistics did not count towards Coastal Plain League standings or statistics. Ryan played with the Outlaws as well a good number of games. 151012D0-80EE-4349-9CCC-437AECB89541.jpeg

I totally understand that man, totally, I will be in the same funk in about a week or so.
I go into three baseball funks a year. The first one is at the end of the UT season, but it didn’t really happen this year because of the CWS 🙂 The second one is the end of the Owls season (I knew for about two weeks it was going to be hard to make the playoffs, so it’s been watching the probable become the certain). The final is the day after the World Series when I cut on the MLB Network and they’re running Ken Burns Baseball documentary. At that point I know winter is here.

I go through a similar deal, the dead periods in between sports..brutal.

The Riptide lost to Santa Barbara, The Foresters will not participate in the CCL playoffs but instead leave today for the NBC World Series in Wichita, Aug. 4th-14th.

Last Night for OCR, Charez Butcher: IP 0.1, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 1 SO, 6 BF

Trey Lipscomb Update:

There are two regular season games left in the Prospect League. Trey is second in the league with 31 RBI’s, BA is .356….He is 2nd on the team in stolen bases, behind Christian Scott. Together, they have a combined 30 SB, 17 & 13.

Through 21 games, 53 innings, he’s committed zero errors at SS.

In the Cape, we are down to the final 3 games before the playoffs start. Because Harwich has clinched a spot, I would expect over the next three days, some of the normal starters will get some rest…so…

UT played it’s first baseball game Feb. 19th and by the time Beck makes it back to campus around mid August, except for travel, he will have been an everyday player for 7 months!

He’s had 86 AB’s so far, he will be over 90 and might get to 100, just in the Cape alone! As it stands since Feb. 19, he’s been to the plate 344 times.

Whew! Now…

The knock on Beck, whether it was Burke or these folks in the Cape talking to scouts…too many K’s, approach is impatient, getting fooled too often on breaking balls.

That’s not me saying those things, I am not that baseball savvy but it DOES make sense to me, it also makes sense to me that he’s been working on it this summer.

Through the first 11 games of the Cape season, he struck out at least once in every game or 20 times total, averaging almost twice a game. He walked 7 times and got 6 hits.

Before I go on, one could chalk some of that up to the adjustment to the wood bat.

Over the last 15 games, has struck out 15 times, for an average of once a game, walked 8 times and had 16 hits. 7 of those 15 games he had 0 Strikeouts!

Whether it’s making a change in approach or just getting used to life in the Cape or some combination, that’s improvement!

Hope he gets to recharge the battery soon!!!

GBO!!!
