Possible, but it’s not a 100% guarantee that a draw gets them through. On the off chance Wales manage to be England, a draw would almost certainly send them home.

I’m a fan of both but Iran going through would be a higher emotional payoff considering Iran’s never gotten past the group stage. I wouldn’t necessarily be unhappy with either result. Except a draw and wales beats England. That would suck.

As someone familiar with Iran obviously, I do think if Iran happens to score first or if it’s 0-0 by the 65th minute I think it would be difficult to win at that point considering parking the bus is Iran’s speciality. America’s best chance is to get off to a good start early and put pressure on Iran to score similar to the Iran-England game.

It’s been the opposite of what I expected from them. Between their aging back line and Roberto Martinez’s teams reputation for being leaky at the back in the best of times, I figured their defense would be their Achilles heel. Totally the opposite though. Their defense was pretty solid today, and only conceded on a freakish cross that snuck in and then on the break when they were throwing people forward. They just offered NOTHING in attack.
