The Official 2022 FIFA World Cup Thread

What fast, tall, Black dudes are producing goals in our college soccer? Get them into European leagues, asap.
The idiots that run US Soccer would encourage those guys to play in MLS in order to promote the league. That's another issue with the USMNT that I don't know has been resolved. It's the equivalent of someone encouraging a 4 or 5-star recruit to play in the Sun Belt or FCS to "build up those leagues." It's beyond stupid.

Zimmerman had back to back turnovers that were elementary before half. Directly led to their second goal. You are correct thought that while our fullbacks look good going forward, they were suspect defensively.

Defense was bad today all around. Love the guy as a NashvilleSC fan but Zimmerman just isn’t a WC quality player. Didn’t have a ton of options behind him though. Vickers isn’t all that much better, IMO.

Yep. I'm not an MLS fan so maybe this is easy for me to say, but if a dude from Nashville SC is on your national team, and especially if he's starting, you aren't going all that far in this tournament.

The guy didn’t have a terrible tournament, but there’s a reason why against England they were really trying to put him under pressure when he and the ball deep in our own end. It’s his technical abilities that fail him. He’s strong in the air, and somewhat physical, but lacking in a lot of other areas. I think the stage may have been a bit much for him because the really bad decision he had against Bale in the Wales game is something you don’t see a lot from him. In my opinion, he panicked, and that almost cost us if we didn’t win that game against Iran.

I've watched Zimmerman with Nashville a lot and at that level he looks completely different than he does at this level. Here a bit outclassed at this level I think.

Is it philosophy?
I was thinking that myself. It’s not like we’re just pulling a bunch of scrubs off the street to throw out on the pitch.
To be honest I dont know anyone on that team except Pulisic. I pulled up the squad expecting to see a bunch of MLS players and was shocked to see the majority play at top tier clubs in Europe. That blew my "its the MLS fault" theory out of the water.

So yeah, I think its philosophy and maybe a lack of team cohesion.

With the US out, of the remaining teams, which team or teams will you be rooting for or against?

There are still far too many of them that play in MLS. 9 of the 26 on the roster. MLS is not a good league; it's behind even the English League Championship and other leagues like Russia and Belgium.

They won't be where the fans want them to be until 7 or 8 guys in the starting 11 are at Pulisic's level - playing for a major European team, and producing around his level. Maybe there are on their way there. Dest, Reyna, McKinnie, are all nice players. Reyna is promising and playing for a really good European team. They just need a bunch more of them.

Just now realizing we could have Netherlands vs. Argentina, England vs. France, and Portugal vs. Spain as 3 of the 4 quarterfinal matches. So much hate!
