The Official 2025 March Madness Discussion Thread

Narrative for SEC this March as stated. We didn't deserve 14 teams like people said.

Teams like Georgia, Oklahoma, Vandy, and even Arkansas (I know they are still in it but regular season, they were terrible) didn't belong.
The big problem with this narrative is that there really weren't teams in any sort of form to replace them. West Virginia was probably the one with the biggest case, and it was Xavier with the weakest resume among the teams that got in. Xavier beating Texas is probably the worst result for the SEC teams that did make it. MSU losing to Baylor is the second worse, given Baylor's inconsistent performance. UConn kept its big steak alive against Oklahoma by the skin of their teeth, and every other SEC loss was to a conference champion -- regular season or tournament. It's not an embarrassment to the SEC for the 12th best team to lose to the WCC champion at the buzzer.

Missouri was the one that really crapped the bed.

A&M didn't look that great today choking away the lead. Auburn is struggling with Creighton right now...

They aren’t young. Their top 5 scorers are 3 seniors and 2 juniors.
I guess he meat young at heart lol.

Those guys had trouble scoring at times all year. Arkansas was just the better team overall all. Obviously more athletic.
I wish Davis could've ended up here after Flordia Atlantic. Could really used him this year.

And as I said, this Arkansas team is uber talented. Top 25 recruits and 2 all conference transfers. Their regular season was almost a disaster. Good for him for turning it around. I will still never believe he’s a great floor coach- enough sample size.
Floor coaching isn't Cal's biggest asset.
Recruiting and motivation is. He can coach well enough in respect to get it done tho, as we saw today. He's still a real threat in the SEC.
Which was my one of my over-arching points.

just shows how much of a crapshoot the tourney is. I think they matched up pretty well against St. John’s and all it takes is an off night from the higher rated team. RJ Luis was horrible the same way DJ Wagner crapped the bed in last years tourney. I kinda feel bad for Pitino cause he probably won’t have many more chances to compete for titles.

Drake was a tricky team this year (They're one of the conference champions I mentioned, with 30 wins). They beat Vanderbilt and Kansas State (who had a poor year but were giant killers in moments) so you had to know they were dangerous. Missouri should have won, but it's possible Drake earns a higher seed with a better schedule. Michigan was the Big Ten Tournament champion, and have been hot to end the season. A&M was going to be vulnerable because they are one of the worst shooting teams in the nation, relying almost entirely on offensive rebounds. Saint John's is another illustration of the risk of that approach.

I think Auburn plays a better second half. Creighton shot so well in the first half, Auburn shot very poorly, and it covered up that Auburn took 14 more shots.

They were a bottom tier SEC team.

Michigan just beat an SEC 4 seed.
A bottom tier team that just beat a favored #2 seed. Arkansas will give Texas Tech all they want. If Thiero comes back next week like some are saying, and they get that win, I wouldn't be surprised if the odds in any potential Michigan match-up being around even.
Probably never happens because I doubt Arkansas could beat Florida
