The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Hey. Speaking of reloading, anyone interested in swapping out bench rest small rifle primers for AR? I bought way too many BR-4's before I knew I needed 41's for my AR. And yes the line about having more money than sense does apply.😊

it is noteworthy and concerning that the rhetoric on this issue is only getting worse. we seem to be following in the path of previous revolutionary movements where the later adopters have to push the envelope further than the immediately preceding converts. the way this is going, i fully expect people to start suggesting that the rest of us would be safer if we'd just go ahead and take out the unvaccinated.

lol. thought I was in the covid thread. screw it. don't feel like reposting.

It’ll probably end up being the right thread eventually….

I’ll defend you my brother.
Or at least hide you in the attic

thanks. I am vaccinated and will get the booster when my time comes but I could see myself getting lumped in.

And...I bought my first box of PMC soft point 357 magnum since covid started today on my way home from work. It was the last box in the store. I think it was about $35.

Ok.
Just remember there’s room up there

I saw Thunderbolt bricks at Academy for $40 and people were buying them. They done lost their minds.

People that don't keep a nice stock up, is now finding out why we buy two or three boxes everytime we go to the gun shop.

Took my wife out to let her shoot her 10/22. I brought out the 555 Winchester box. She ask if we needed to watch how much we shot because the price is up and stock is down.
I'm like nope now you know why I buy stuff like crazy in the good times.

Say, theoretically, that you wanted to get your recoil-aversive, gun-nervous better half a concealable handgun that she might learn with, become comfortable, and would still be enough to neutralize a threat, if ever necessary. . . .

What would you guys suggest?

I would rarely recommend a .380, but that may be the best course of action

That's kind of my thought, but the only one I've shot, I hated (Ruger LCP).

Sig P238? Glock 42?

It needs to have a little more "substance" to it for her hands. The Ruger felt to me like it might explode at any moment.

I've even questioned if a revolver might be a better option.

You need to take her to a gun store to get the feel of handguns. Make sure she can rack it easily. Example: Ruger LCP 380 is small and concealable, but is harder to rack and is less "substance" than a Ruger LC380. Personally, I like the Ruger LC9S; same as LC380 but in 9mm. Have her try anything before you buy at a gun range. If you bump up to 9mm, then Springfield Hellcat has good reviews and allow more ammo.

I have a Sig P 238. Outstanding piece. Easy to rack the slide, mild recoil, and tiny but accurate. Academy has a model that comes with night sights. Pretty pricey ($550+) but modeled after the 1911 and a great concealed carry weapon if you can reconcile carrying 8 rounds of 380 ACP.

Finding a range that does rentals and letting her find what she is most comfortable with.

You ask an opinion on handguns and you're going to get 58 different models. You want her to get better? Get her shooting lessons (added bonus is one you attend with her) and then let her pick what she likes best.

Great advice

I have a G42. Limp wristing can affect cycling of the action with a hesitant shooter. Plus, no external safety which can be a mental hurdle for some.

The one and only time my wife went to a gun show with me at Nashville fairgrounds, she came home with a Colt Defender in .45. I was kinda like “really?”, but that’s what she wanted. I think she’s fired it twice in the past decade.

My wife's nightstand gun is a Ruger LCR 22WMR. It's right for her.
