The Official #3 Tennessee vs. #11 Michigan NCAA Tournament Game Thread, 5:50 PM ET, CBS

They think if they cry enough they will be heard.
Schiano Sunday gave them the false impression that they can control coaching decisions. The Schiano deal was nixed because the boosters threatened to cancel donations. It had nothing to do with “Vol Twitter” or that stupid protest on campus.

This, 2-18 is just pitiful.

Barnes is an excellent regular season coach but below average in the tournament. It is what it is. This is 3x now with Barnes we’ve had a favorable bracket to the sweet 16 or more and we go out in the 1st or 2nd round.

It’s been bad luck too though. People just don’t want to admit it. Lost Alexander in round one and couldn’t play against Loyola. Lost Fulky in SECT last year. Got a 50/50 foul called for the EE. I understand the frustration, but the luck has been terrible.

There is no such thing as a “good regular season / bad tournament coach”

Basketball is the same game in March as in November.

Ricks problem has been lack of recruiting quality bigs during the Alexander yrs.

Anyone who blames Barnes is crazy. We just got outplayed across the board.

This is BS no offense.

Barnes has a long and lengthy track record of this.

At some point when your teams keep crapping the bed and get bounced in the early rounds it’s just bad coaching and bad scheming.

We got out schemes all day long and it was obvious .

Alexander was solid. We would have won today and been a FF team with Kyle Alexander. I admit, the bigs have struggled the last couple of years. But BHH and Aidoo are going to be good.

Lol criticize all you want. Its the extreme ass holes I am talking about. It's perfectly fine to say Barnes doesn't have a great tournament record. But crapping on a team that's probably one of the best we ever had, a team that won something that matter, a team that got absolutely shafted with the seeding and the bias in all of college sports officiating.... Yeah that team didnt get it done tonight and now the season is over. Disappointment is ok for us fans. But they also deserve rsspect for what they did accomplish. I promise they hurt worse than we do.
Absolutely, like I said the criticism is fair but my broader point was and is all fan bases have elements like that. I'm sure if you check on cats paws or whatever it is you'd see them bashing Cal and some idiots wanting him gone too.

Agreed, but my fear is once we get better inside presence the outside presence will be lacking. Ziegler is going to be excellent, his help for the future isn't on this roster yet.

So does UT throughout it's history.

How was Barnes outschemed? Their big man schooled all four of our big men with superior basketball and toughness and want-to.

A couple of take-aways for me:

1) NCAAT committee seeding is meaningless. There are so many overseeded and underseeded teams that it fosters the notion that there are upsets when there really aren't that many.
2) The SEC is a mediocre basketball conference at best.
3) Tennessee will never get a break in the NCAAT. If it isn't bad seeding, it's bad officiating. And if it isn't those things, it's bad luck. I've come to expect it every year because it cuts down on the level of disappointment.

make that both Mich bigs., and moussa diabete, a frosh, and their backups did plenty of damage
and i bet phil martelli deserves a lotta credit, too

Aidoo played well when he played and Barnes jerks him out. Fulk got out muscled tonight and played more minutes. Makes no sense

We have a point guard coming in next yr. He isn’t as good as Chandler and Barnes will have to use tough love so he defends well. ZZ wil be a freshman and bigger guards can post him up. The portal can be used to find post players and guards, too. Surely we can pick up some skilled players at both positions to keep the window open.

The SEC wasn’t mediocre. The tournament is a different animal and just about matchups. The SEC teams get 3 P5 11 seeds while the Big Ten 7 seeds got 2 mid majors. Michigan State wins by one, and Ohio State wins with 54 points when Loyola scores 41. Is that what we are discussing?

Dickinson would have completely overpowered Alexander

I don’t think so. In his senior year, Alexander could have handled him anywhere on the floor. Plus, Kyle developed the 15 foot shot that none of our current bings have. Totally different dynamic with him that type of game.

We aren't mediocre but as a conference we certainly aren't as good as I thought we were. I thought we were possibly the best conference by a fair margin, I don't believe that after two rounds in the tourney.

Four of the 6 SEC teams are out before the end of the first weekend. That is what we are discussing.
