The Official #4 Tennessee vs. #10 Texas - Battle for the Real UT - Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, ESPN

I hope you’re right! I heard the interviews with him, and Barnes, and both sounded like it’s a confidence issue and they also re-worked his shot….so we shall see!! The main point of my post is, he is a liability more than an asset thus far.
Seems like there have been quite a few players that Barnes has had to work with on their shot the past few years. It’s just the way it is with Barnes, you’re gonna have a few players that don’t have the offensive skills that others have. But over time, if you can get them to progress and produce in some capacity on the offensive side, it may work out pretty well. Mashack has heart, shows a lot of effort, just needs to progress over the next few years.

The ESPN hates us conspiracy theory is laughable but every fanbase has it just like every fanbase thinks the refs are in a room right now plotting against them.
But it’s not paranoia when they really are out to get you… / blue font

Great game and win. However it’s clearly apparent to me in game action Madshack puts us at 4 on 5. He looks lost. I know he’s had moments of defense but I’m just not seeing SEC caliber play from him and his liability last night contributed to Texas to cutting the lead in second half. Two years ago word was he’s a “Barnes kind of player” but I believe he needs to transfer.
Simply, no.

I’m re-watching the game. The scramble with about 12 minutes left where Mashack went down with the ball and then the ball was loose…was terrible officiating. Cunningham was hacking Mashack multiple times without even touching the ball. That’s what frustrates me about the jump ball call- just because a guy is on the floor with the ball doesn’t give a defender free reign to jump on him or hack him.

Was this the play Santi was involved?

I think it’s the one where they eventually came away with the ball and 4 of our players were on the floor.

Yes, multiple guys were on the floor. After a few seconds, the ball ends up in Texas hands. They pass down low, JJJ and Aidoo play pretty good defense, and they call a questionable foul.

I'm not sure I get the Mashack hate. He's legit one of the best defensive players I've ever seen. Stats bear that out as well, on Sports-Reference he's 2nd on the team with a 78.9 defensive rating (per 100 possessions) and 1st in defensive box plus/ minus at 7.3.

Obviously the offense is a work in progress, but he's been more willing this year on that end. He can actually put in on the floor and get to the rim which is something we struggle with. He can improve as a finisher, but encouraging signs. Shooting stroke looks pretty good, but needs more confidence. He has a good midrange jumper actually, just struggles from deep.

He would play more if our other guards weren’t also great defenders, but they’re just as good as him and have a much better offensive game. Add in the facts he’s atrocious from the FT line and it’s not a great recipe.

Jefferson passes him next year, if he stays, which I think he does. In fact, Mashack may be the next transfer. This is a Dog prediction and I'm sure bTo will remember it, unless I get it right

I won’t shut the door on Mashack, he’s a hard worker and a good kid so you know Barnes loves him. He put in a lot of work Year 1 to Year 2 on his game and if he makes the same jump Year 2 to Year 3 then he can be an impactful player for us.

Agree. I love the energy and effort he brings. I just think his offensive deficiencies will allow DJ to pass him up. That doesn't mean I don't think he can't help this and upcoming teams

Hopefully Jahmai (3.9 ppg in 16 mpg) undergoes an offensive progression similar to Yves from year 2 (2.2 ppg in 11.7 mpg) to year 3 (10.8 ppg in 33.9 mpg)
