The Official #4 Tennessee vs. #10 Texas - Battle for the Real UT - Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, ESPN

I was there 09-13 for mine so I got to catch the very tail end of Ricks tenure there. It was a pretty miserable fan base around that time as they were in the process of running off both Barnes and Mac Brown

Yeah, I was there when both Mack Brown and Barnes were hired. There were some fun times when both those programs got going, such as the Ricky Williams years. The fans could definitely be ridiculous, though, first loss in football each year and everyone just packed it in.

I can’t wait. If we can get Phillips clicking, this team is going to be scary good come March.

Also, sorry to all those that had to suffer through Dick Vitale tonight. Every time I’d see him I thought about you folks having to listen to that.
Thankful for the Vol Network- we could do a lot worse than Bob & Bert.

I understand the tendency to think ESPN hates us but maybe, just this time, it’s not news that we beat Texas. Maybe they expected us to do it. I mean, most picked us to win.

Considering that ESPN picked Knoxville for 2 football College Gamnedays, 1 women's basketball College Gameday, and 1 men's basketball College Gameday, I think the "ESPN hates us" cryassery needs to stop. You don't give that kind of exposure (which NO OTHER SCHOOL is getting) to a school you "hate."

The ESPN hates us conspiracy theory is laughable but every fanbase has it just like every fanbase thinks the refs are in a room right now plotting against them.

Bama losing is a more interesting story than us beating a team we were supposed to beat. I don't know how that's confusing to you.
This was a top 10 win against Barnes' former school and two UTs The Bama game is just an example. The Uber Eats story also seemed to be more important to ESPN.

Most others on here get my point. Sorry you are struggling with it.

This was the school that fired Barnes and two top 10 teams. Both UTs. Plenty to write about here. Especially with the #s ZZ and O put up. Argue Bama dropping a game to Oklahoma on the road is bigger news, ok, but definitely not a bigger story than Uber Eats!

Great game and win. However it’s clearly apparent to me in game action Madshack puts us at 4 on 5. He looks lost. I know he’s had moments of defense but I’m just not seeing SEC caliber play from him and his liability last night contributed to Texas to cutting the lead in second half. Two years ago word was he’s a “Barnes kind of player” but I believe he needs to transfer.

Agree to disagree!

. He will be fine. He is athletic, can shoot, not great but adequate. He can play defense. I see him playing a lot of minutes next year. Needs to work on his handle.

He keeps looking for his shot, it will come.
I hope you’re right! I heard the interviews with him, and Barnes, and both sounded like it’s a confidence issue and they also re-worked his shot….so we shall see!! The main point of my post is, he is a liability more than an asset thus far.

It’s why he didn’t play much and imo won’t much going forward this season…defensively Zeigler and Santi are better, Key is close but the difference in offense sets Key apart. He could play some 3 but Phillips obviously is elite defensively and also more of an offensive threat. If we face a guard who’s lighting us up or we get into some foul trouble he’s nice to have available, but ideally we won’t need to.

As for his future, I think if he spends another offseason working hard on the offensive end and ball handling he will continue to improve his chances of playing. He made a nice jump year 1-2, another step forward and he won’t be a liability imo.
