The Official #5 Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt Game Thread, 1:00 PM ET, SEC Network

That 2nd half is really how the team has to play every half.

Vandy isn't a bad team at all, and Edwards is a bucket getter. Him getting hot and hit 60% from deep on 10 shots kept them close that 2nd half.

Carey isn't as good as he played but dude hit 7 of 9 from FT and that's never happened before in his career. Two games though and he's given our bigs a fit both times.

At this point in the season, just win. We're obviously an 8 man team unfortunately and lately it's been more like a 6 man squad with Cade and Dubar not giving us much off the bench.

Good win, great comeback, but that first half performance is just unacceptable from a team like this, at this point in the season, AT HOME...

I still can't believe the horrible officiating today, that it just keeps getting worse and seems like home court for the Vols is almost worse... Igor did NOT foul that kid, he literally jumped into him and the ref just gave it to him. Pathetic. Never mind their first big man to foul out knocking the 'ish outa Cade over and over and then call the foul on Cade...

We shouldn't have even been in this situation the last 6-8 minutes of the game, just come out and play consistent in the first half at HOME, and we blow these candy's out...

We are short-handed (Barnes has to take a lot of the blame on this, no excuses) and fight hard, but we will lose another 3-4 before the end of the season, it is just what it is at this point. Inconsistent play at the end of the season, this is what you get.
Lol. Of course. We lost our last 2 games last year and then went to the Elite Eight.

Hopefully TN will find a way to play 40 min. It takes four (4) consecutive wins to reach final four, and six (6) to cut down the nets.

We will need much better (more consistent) play from ZZ, Chaz, & Igor to get to Elite 8 and beyond.

Now the super fans start showing up to tell people how awful they are for negative posts in the first half.
Ï always come read these when a game ends. It's funny tbh. Football fans don't understand how basketball works. They expect good teams to be in control the whole game. The thing is, all great teams lose and have close games all the time. It's the nature of the game.

Has nothing to do with "super" fans. It's about having a reasonable perspective. Marathon season of 40 min games. Some posters react to our occasional losses with petty and ignorant criticism then aren't anywhere to be found after wins. Same thing happens by the minute every game.
Yep. It’s not folks who give reasonable criticism. Lord knows they deserved all criticism one could give at the half today because that first half effort was pitiful. The problem is those who are incessantly critical of a 21 and 5 team and those that just hate Rick Barnes for no good reason. Those are the ones who deserve the heat.

Most impactive call was a no call on their big guys flush to make it tight. He clearly displaced Igor with an over the back foul. 3:47 mark I think it was if you want to challenge it.

You are right about the call against 12 too. Legal guarding position after being forced back by two significant shoulders to his chest.

Great teams typically don’t go down 16 at home in the first half either. The reaction in the thread was warranted. It was almost as bad as Florida first half.

Tennessee kept battling and starting rebounding better. The Mashack doubters once again the best defensive player in America proved he could score in big moments. This team is solid, Lanier May have played his best overall game yet. Vandy is just a tough matchup for us but the Vols proved that they a very tough team for anyone to deal with. Proud of the second half effort and this was a big win! GBO!!!!

Edwards makin junk you try in backyard "horse" games was killin me. So glad to pull out that win.
Can someone who knows the game better than myself explain why in the last 2 minutes we didn’t double Edwards to get the ball out of his hands? He dribbled full distance of the court and rained contested 3’s. Sometimes it seems when someone is on fire you make someone else beat you?

I don’t post during the game. I said several days ago that I hoped Tennessee beat Vanderbilt like a borrowed mule. The fact that the Vols came back up from 15 down showed me this team has grit and backbone and is even more sweet of a win. And as a Vols fan deep in the heart of Aggieland, they have a whole week before coming down here. Get rested and right mentally, and beat the Aggies.

True, but there is an equally amount of fans who are never around when the Vols are trailing or struggling. They only show up here after wins.

I have no problem with negative takes when the team isn't playing as well as they should. We post in the moment and say stupid things. I'm not sure why people get upset by that. It's all in fun, or it is to me.

Mature teams can win by deciding to win. Vandy had a lot of dumb luck that can be discouraging, and we played a really bad defensive first half, but we decided to win. If we do well in the tournament, I think we’ll look back at that first half as a turning point. Long road ahead, but that second half was very important in determining who we are.

Purdue got their ass beat at home today. Florida lost at home to Missouri. UK lost at home to Arkansas. Florida was up double digits the entire first half at Auburn for crying out loud

I’m enjoying it unlike you who is trying to shame people for not liking the first half. Lmao.

Not liking it NEVER justifies a gross lack of character it takes to hit the post button with nobody in your face. You can’t put those bullets back in the gun. Those posts are available to review for a while. I believe the phrase is NO EXCUSES!

Honest criticism is warranted, but personal attacks on players is never acceptable
