Great win. Total team effort. I felt like we played lackadaisically at times, but hard to complain. They were off and their injured PG still scored 22. I think we play with full intensity that entire game we hang over 100 on them with the injury to that guard. I think the @bama game will be much closer of course. Still a lot to build on!

Opened 5.5 which seemed a touch higher than expected, and the fact it’s moved even higher is interesting as well.

The first Vols basketball game I remember going to, my uncle Roger took me to Stokely against Bama. The number one thing I remember about it, besides UT and Dale Ellis kicking ass, was the chant by 12,800 fans : Go to Hell, Bama, go to hell !

DK gets that reach in all the time and it's never called. I was taught (a long time ago) by my coach that reaching in was the cardinal sin on defense and it would almost always be called a foul. That proved true my entire playing and viewing life until DK. Players are allowed to reach and slap down across his arms in every game. It makes no sense.

Same here. I was a short point guard known with quick hands and speed. My coaches always told me to move my feet with “palms up,” instead of slapping down at the ball or reaching.

I don’t know when they changed “palms up” on defense but that is what I was taught in the 70s and early 80’s, including basketball camps.

Bama plays like bullies on steroids. Defensively they will mug you and hope the officials swallow their whistle and offensively they play like their hair is on fire by jacking 3’s or attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line. They average 90 a game and hold opponents to 73 a game. They shoot almost 50% from the field and 40% from three. They have taken 501 attempts with the 3 and average almost 12 makes a game,while opponents have taken 387. They shoot 78% from the foul line and taken 398 attempts to their opponents 363. They body up on drives and constantly reaching in for steals as they average almost 8 per game. We must value every possession and limit turnovers and most importantly win the rebound game. We gotta rely on our defense to slow these guys down. Barnes needs to work the officials from the get go. Don’t let oats beat him to the punch with the refs. Both teams are pretty deep. It would be nice to see JJJ, SV, or Gainey score double figures. If we can hold them to 30% shooting from 3 ( we can’t let them go off on us with 15 made 3’s) and limit their free throws I think we win by at least 8. Aidoo can’t disappear today from their physical play. Go Vols! Beat Bammer!

Giving you the benefit of the doubt as basketball teams can play very different between games, but the bama roster is lacking. They have no real rim protection. Sears is impressive at times, but he is more ball hog than point guard. Nothing about that team made me think they could “bully” us. The VOLS just provided everyone a blue print of how to guard them. I don’t see how they can beat one of the top teams unless the officials give them a hundred free throws for which their players and coach spend an insane amount of time crying to the officials for a call. I think you’ve seriously overestimated the strength of their roster.

Just his presence on the floor opens up a lot of things. The other team gives him so much attention it gives everybody else open shots. And yeah, when 25 is an off night and we win by 20 against a really good team, that says a lot.

25 was all we needed from Dalton today.

That kid is good no doubt. Perhaps he was just playing possum IDK. I did see some fouls called against us that seemed like clean plays, but pretty sure we got away with a few.

If it was a hot streak wouldn’t it be the outlier of a couple games? Beginning the year and back end of this stretch he’s averaging 23ppg over 12 games, he had a 5 game stretch in the middle he averaged 7ppg. Wouldn’t that be more accurate to call that a cold streak and the 23ppg the more “normal” or “average” and not a hot streak?

Now 13 games to suggest the 5 game stretch was the cold streak and that he’s a legit 18+PPG guy

Santi & JJJ returning and being unselfish glue guys.

Then add offensive minded players in DK & Gainey.

Such a well built roster, big fan of getting JP & Freddie more minutes in SEC play too.
