The Official #7 Tennessee @ Ole Miss Game Thread, 5:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Foul shots aren’t they difficult to make. Most of it is mental towards the end of the game as fatigue and pressure if the game “kick in.”
Where were you when Shaq played?

Not having JJJ is hurting us, offensively. Seems like he should have had off-season surgery, assuming it was something of an issue coming into this year; didn't, and now the knee isn't responding to rest and whatever treatments he's been getting. That he hasn't played in several weeks is an indication of a semi-serious problem, or worse.

I dunno man, we are hanging in there with Arizona and beat Kansas. Basically all teams are flawed this year except maybe UCONN
True. I definitely believe we can potentially beat any team; we just look really bad sometimes, and it raises doubts and concerns in my mind. Hopefully we can pull it together as the season progresses.

Because there aren’t 8 teams that are clearly better. My guess is we end up a 3 but there’s just not many great teams, if any. The jury is out in a few.

Hell Arizona needed a LOT of help from the officials to beat us at home.

We shot bad from 3 & FTs and won by 4 on the road, we’re a damn good team.

When we take smart shots we’re easily one of the best teams in the country. When we stand around and jack 3s without working the ball in it gets ugly at times but our D keeps us around in every game and we have enough offense to overcome most teams. Clean up the turnovers, make our FTs and this team could easily be playing deep in March.

Phillips had that monster game against USC in Atlantis and has essentially disappeared since then. Baffling. I hope he can figure it out. We need someone else to emerge on offense.
Mostly off of FT’s wasn’t it? Not jumpers….. he’s struggling with jumpers and defending bigger guys

I don’t think we have stood around and jacked 3s since the Colorado game.

How come we are always deficient of pure outside shooters? I don’t get it. When was the last time we had 2 guys who could hit 3’s at 40%? Heck 37%!? I know Santi is but what’s wrong with Key? We need him and Phillips to step up in a big way offensively
Literally last year, when we had 4 guys 38%+ lol

Where were you when Shaq played?

HBO had a recent series regarding Shaw during his time at LSU and NBA career. “Hack a Shaq” was a primary reason he decided to leave LSU early as he and coach Dale Brown were concerned he would be injured if he stayed in college.

His poor foul shooting was brought up a few times during the series. Shaq said it was mental while those closest to him state he had difficulty releasing the ball as he had huge hands. Others say it was due to his height but other 7 footers made their four shots so ….

Shaq was definitely a poor foul shooter and it was painful to watch.

I forgot I have to be more literal on here. Powell barely played after SEC started and ORN isn’t what I think of as an pure outside shooter but he is a 40% . So you’re right we did have at least 2 over 37%. I guess I was thinking more of long term guards like Santi. Hopefully everyone’s shooting heats up as the season wears on.

We won with defense, this team is what Cuonzo Martin was trying to build here, but never could. It’s ugly but it beats losing.

Game - 63-59 TN.

Vescovi missed both foul shots @ the end. I just don’t see how you miss foul shots.

This team isn’t a top 10 team imo, however, the tournament is payed in March, not December. I just hope the offense is fixable as it’s painful to watch.

I haven’t seen every top 20 team play this yr. The ones I’ve seen have flaws, including TN. KY is getting their a$$ handed to them right now by Mizz. Bama and Arkansas are top 10 teams as both are athletic.

Anyway, I may have misspoke as TN may be a top ten team. While I am concerned about the lack of offense, most are flawed with opportunities. My initial post may have been in haste. It wasn’t because of the close game Vs Ole Miss yet the team’s overall offensive scheme.

Barnes knows better than me and I rather be flawed now than in March.

Go Vols!

He was totally lost out there in the first half. Then our 2nd best player that second half.
He is going to learn a lot from this film. Really glad he got it going in the second half!I think he will be big for us later in the season.

Fans of every single team in college basketball can say this though. That’s the game.

Didn't mean to poke you in eye.... keyboard warrior.

My apologies. I didn’t mean any harm. I was asked a question from another poster about doing shooting. I gave an honest answer as I was a good foul shooter. I was only 5’7 so I had to find a way to make the court w hustle, ball handling, defense and point guard play, incl foul shooting.

So you're saying Shaq was fatigued at the beginning of the game? Cause he couldn't make a free throw if his life depended on it.

How true. In the past Barnes’ teams had a transition game. I can live with the half court offense as long as we limit the turnovers and can limit droughts. Good offenses have to be able to score other than the three ball.

It’s only December so there is plenty of time as defense will allow this team to win many games. I just have high aspirations as I love March Madness.
Yea, I wish they would make a push in March but seems to always disappoint. Been that way since Jerry Green Day’s.
