The Official #9 Tennessee @ Wisconsin Game Thread, 9:00 PM ET, Peacock

Wisconsin played tough. That was a very good road win.

Iā€™m most excited about how our players from last year are performing at a higher level. It appears that greater talent has taken the pressure off of some and they are playing loose. JJJ for one was way more assertive this game. Itā€™s good to see.

This is just game four counting the exhibition games. This team will get better. SV and ZZ are not playing their best ball yet.

The Maui International will be a huge test. Canā€™t wait to see how we perform. Itā€™s great to be a Tennessee Volunteer. GBO!
JJJ drove to the basket with authority and success. Been wanting to see that for years.

Ton of good tonight. Knecht is obvious.

Foul trouble took Vescovi out early. He never forced anything. Was 2-4 from the field, so he knew he didn't need to be taking a lot of shots. He scrapped out 4 boards and played excellent defense in the second half.

Aidoo was excellent. Wisconsin is a big banger team and he played probably more than Barnes planned because Awaka got in early foul trouble too. 5/8 from the floor, never took any really bad shots, played solid D and led the team in rebounds.

Awaka only played 12 minutes, but they were big minutes. 6 points, 4 when they were breathing down our neck and the offense was in a rough spot. And 6 boards.

Excellent game for JJJ. He did everything. 14 on 4/8 shooting, 6 boards. Solid defense.

ZZ and Mashack struggled, 2/8 from the floor. Last year if we had those two struggle and only got 5 from Vescovi, we probably get blown out.
Great observation on Awaka!šŸ˜Ž

When I look on the floor and see a team with Vescovi, Gainey and Knecht, I just have to smile thinking about the thought processes going through the opposing coaching staffs minds. Then I look at our bench, the substitution options available to Barnes...whew. Barring injury, this can be a special season. I'm also gonna have to eat some crow on Barnes. I thought the old fossil(I say that admiringly since I am one) would forgo the portal like Dabo claims to do. He's gotta be smiling every time he walks into the gym and sees Knecht and Gainey. I'm sure he'll continue solid recruiting and developing youngsters, but I suspect this might wet his appetite for obtaining more ready made help through transfers. Just gonna enjoy this season and pray that the injury bug passes us by this year. We deserve to have a shot come tournament time with all of our weapons available.

Also, Iā€™m loving what Iā€™m seeing from Cade Phillips.

I watch closely during most games and have never noticed it.

The last couple years our guys were scared to make a single mistake (turnover, foul, dumb shot) because Barnes would take them out almost instantaneously. Maybe because Barnes now has a pure scorer he hasnā€™t had since Grant/Admiral daysā€¦..

Now heā€™s yelling at Dalton to shoot the ball and not be passive. Barnes hasnā€™t been like that with a single player in a while. Iā€™m glad. Itā€™s likely because he knows DK is special and probably going to go gangbusters scoring this year.

This is such nonsense made up by a few Barnes haters on this forum. Barnes has been begging his team to push the pace and take open shots for years. He regularly comments on it in interviews. Players get yanked for not following the game plan and being lazy on defense / rebounding.

Yep. But these takes are so blatantly ignorant and agegda-driven, theyā€™re not worth addressing anymore. If one is that hellbent on being negative and miserable, facts and reason will not interfere.

Barnes hater? Are you freaking serious? Iā€™ve done nothing but defend the guy because heā€™s the best we could hope for and the results show that. Literally have said multiple times Barnes should decide when his time is up here, not the university. But that is Barnes hating!

Fact is he finally has a dominant ball handler who can score. We havenā€™t had that in a few season and often times, guys played tight and would assert themselves. This isnā€™t some grand conspiracy.

Good grief, not everything is a slight or knock. Barnes finally has the ideal player heā€™s been waiting for after a few years.

Get a grip of yourself.

Also, you gotta give Barnes a lot of credit for his exhibition scheduling. Pretty clear he laid that out with an eye toward this years early schedule.

Ok. You must have spoken with the players about what they were thinkingšŸ¤

Anyone whoā€™s followed Tennessee basketball would know exactly what Iā€™m talking about with our guys being timid on offense in terms for asserting themselves. This is not some grand controversy.

Barnes finally has the SCORER heā€™s been waiting on whoā€™s going to go bonkers on offense without fear.

This is a great thing.

Wisconsin was a good team. Hepburn and Storr will take them far. They need more production out of their bench guys. Our bench outscored theirs 23-8.

Their bigs both almost had double-doubles, but thatā€™s due to our smaller lineup. If they get some things cleaned up, they are easily a top 25 team.
I was impressed with Hepburnā€™s hair.

The two questions I have at this early point in the season:

1. How good can this team be?

2. Can Barnes get it done a higher clip in March?

Should be a fun and interesting season.

This could be his best team since heā€™s been here.
