The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

As if the Sox (or Phils) can't afford it.

Wonder if Bard is the option or if others will be looked at.

They'll pick up a closer. Doubt they turn it over to Bard.

Reddick is as good as Beltran? Really?

He may not be AS good but I would much prefer to have him over Beltran.

Beltran is 34, will carry a steep pricetag, is injury prone ( has played in over a 100 games once since '08 ).

Reddick showed a lot of promise last year and is only 24, will cost a fraction of the price.

Just cause you have the money doesn't mean you have to spend it.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bard get a shot, then again, you don't want to go to the trade deadline way behind and have to try and shop for one then.

It isn't all that difficult to get three outs, and Bard has the tools to do so. Paps can still be lights out, but I agree that the price wasn't right.

Gotta wonder if Heath Bell is available.

60 million is too much...I also have a feeling that by the end of that contract, Philaelphia may be kicking themselves.

He was as good as it gets early in his career but has struggled more than he should the last few years.

This.

I do NOT want Beltran in RF, I'd rather platoon Reddick & Kalish. We had the best offense in baseball while getting almost no production from RF. We need pitching, pitching, pitching, & some more pitching.

Looks like Bobby Valentine could be the front runner for the manager job, Cherington said he wanted a manager in place by Dec. 5th.

Red Sox will have a manager by the end of this week, Valentine & Lamont are the final 2. Everyone believes it will be Valentine.

Karl Ravech just tweeted that Gene Lamont is no longer a candidate & that Valentine has not been offered the job yet but it is imminent

He just doesn't seem like an ideal hire to me... but that is my random opinion vs. people who know him a lot better.

Apparently he is a no bs kinda guy, which is what Boston needs, they have gotten too comfortable lately.

That said, one playoff appearance in a 15 year career.

Sucks that he had to go up against far better braves teams basically every year.

Managers can't work magic tricks in the same way coaches of football/basketball can.

I just wanted a manager that will kick this team in the @** & get them to play hard & actually give it their all. From everything I've read Valentine is that type of guy.
