Crawford had some inflammation in his wrist after taking bunting practice a few days ago, he was examined by the Dr's today & was told to rest his wrist for 5-7 days. Looks like he wont be in the lineup on Opening Day.
Whats your prediction for his numbers this year jmoore?
I'm going with around .285 14 hrs 60 rbi 80 runs 35 steals
Nice bounce back year IMO, not exactly worth the money, but getting back on track at least
I expect more than that. 80 runs and 35 steals is unacceptable.
I want at least 100 runs and 50 steals.
100 runs is fairly within reason if he just gets on base.
He looked like a guy stuck in traffic trying to swat a bumblebee in his car at times last year.

The rotation scares me though. 1-3 we are very solid w/ Beckett, Lester, Buchholz BUT those guys HAVE HAVE to stay healthy for this team to be succesful. After those 3 who do you really have? A bunch of guys trying to be 4-5 starters.
Would be a huge lift if we ran into a little luck like the Yankees had last year with the back end of their rotation. In a perfect world Bard/Aceves fill the #4 and one or more of Padilla, Doubront or Miller would step up and fill the void at #5 at least until July. Get back a healthy Dice K/trade for a starter and that would even leave open the option to put Bard/Aceves back in the pen to strengthen it if they have an innings limit on say Bard.
I think the pieces are there, its just a matter of who takes advantage of the opportunity to start. I know Aceves will compete, I have high hopes for Bard and from all indications, Doubront has looked great along with Padilla.
I agree about the offense, not even a concern if healthy. Loving the Cody Ross move and Aviles could shine given 500 ab's in this lineup as well IMO.
I agree w/ all this. Although I did read that they would prefer not to have Bard & Aceves in the rotation. They want at least one of them in the pen, at least that's what I've read. & if that's the case I want Bard in the pen. Imagine having Bard as your closer then having Bailey & Melancon as the setup guys.
Reports out of ST are that Padilla has some very nice stuff.
Doubront could be a guy to watch for as the 5th starter if he can stay healthy, he could also be another guy you can put in the pen.
A guy to watch for, is Rich Hill. That guy was killing it last season before he was hurt. If he can come back good ( & right now reports are that his rehab is going great) then he is another guy you can have trust in out of the pen.
Dice-K is one that could help. He is on schedule to be back starting in the minors by June. If he can just come in & pitch effectively as a 4-5th starter I'll take it.
I'm liking the Cody Ross pick up also.
Aviles has never been a full time position player, so I'm a little worried about that.
So far reports out of ST are that Jose Iglesias is an absolute magician at SS. Valentine is in love w/ his defense, some scouts have said he could be the best defensive SS in MLB right now. Problem is, he is absolutely HORRID at the plate. If he could just bat around .260-.270 I'll take that just b/c of his defense.
Having Youk, Iglesias, Pedroia, & A-Gon in the infield would be GREAT defensivley.
- Boston GlobeBryce Brentz, a Single-A outfielder, was added to the roster for the game against the Blue Jays and singled to center in his one at-bat.
Bobby Valentine, who threw batting practice to Brentz two weeks ago, is impressed with the 23-year-old, saying that hes different than other prospects in how the ball comes off his bat.
Brentz hit .306 with 30 home runs and 94 RBIs in 115 games for Greenville and Salem last season.
It means a lot, Brentz said when apprised of Valentines comments. Its my first game to come up here with the big boys. For him to make a make a statement like that, it makes you feel good as a young player.
Brentz struggled in 2010, hitting .198 for Lowell after being a supplemental first round draft pick out of Middle Tennessee State. He said getting his emotions in check was the biggest improvement he made.
Just tone it down a bit, get back to the basics, Brentz said. It was my effort level and that caused my swing to get long. Last year was about staying focused and staying through the middle. Dont try and hit a ball 700 feet when 400 does a pretty good job.
Brentz spent some time on the bench today talking hitting with David Ortiz.
He told me, Keep your eyes open, because youll learn something every day. Hes right, Brentz said. Hes got a pretty good idea.
Brentz is hoping to move up to Portland this season. A righthanded hitter with power is something the Red Sox could use. In time, Brentz could be that man.
I think Im ready to get up to Double-A, Brentz said. Im ready for a higher challenge.
One of the best parts of spring training is seeing players like Brentz, who called reporters "sir" today when he answered a few questions. He also has a handshake that feels like a vise.
