The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

I keep telling myself to be patient & wait until we can get everyone healthy then we will make a run but man it's just hard. This team is so bad right now.

Beckett made one mistake last night & that was leaving the ball up to Napoli, other than that he pitched a very good game yet our offense couldn't give him any run support & Morales sucked it up.

It's like we can put all the pieces together at once. When we have good pitching our offense stinks, when we have good offense the pitching stinks, when we have a close game w/ a chance to win the bullpen comes in & sucks it up. It's frustrating.

Last paragraph is so true....but thankfully, they are still better off than last april. Win a couple against NY this weekend and things will be looking up....hopefully.

Will Middlebrooks just hit another HR, his 4th in the last 6 games. He now has 16 RBI's, 5 multiple hit games in his last 6.

Did Youk just get K'd again?

Yep just read that, Bard will get he start on Sunday night baseball on ESPN against C.C., lord help us this might get ugly.

Lefthander Andrew Miller had a rocky outing for Pawtucket today, walking four in 1.1 innings against Syracuse. He also struck out three. Of Miller’s 50 pitches, 20 were strikes

In six minor league games on his rehab assignment, Miller has allowed four runs on four hits in six innings with nine walks and 12 strikeouts.

Miller has said he is recovered from the strained left hamstring that has him on the disabled list. But the Red Sox may want to see more consistency before activating him.

Miller’s rehab assignment could go through May 7 before the Sox have to make a decision.

General manager Ben Cherington said today that lefthanded reliever Rich Hill was assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket. That should be the last step in his injury rehabilitation assignment.

Hill has appeared in five Single-A games for Greenville and Salem. His line: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 13 K. He struck out the side in his inning for Salem on Wednesday night.

Hill has made a remarkable recovery from Tommy John surgery last June 9. His return to the majors would be a boost for the struggling Red Sox bullpen.

Getting Rich Hill back may help out our bullpen a little.

All-Star caliber players (5): Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Jon Lester, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia.

Solid big league regulars (5): Alfredo Aceves, Daniel Bard, Clay Buchholz, Cody Ross, Kevin Youkilis.

Major league backup/middle relief types (8): Matt Albers, Mike Aviles, Franklin Morales, Vicente Padilla, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Kelly Shoppach, Nick Punto, Ryan Sweeney.

AAAA-type players (7): Scott Atchison, Felix Doubront, Darnell McDonald, Jason Repko, Nate Spears, Junichi Tazawa, Justin Thomas.

Add it up. Of the 25 players on the roster, 15 are either bench type players or just below replacement-level players. On any given night, the Red Sox are starting three or four players who should be coming off the bench or don't belong on the roster in the first place.

It's really no more complicated than that. When you have Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Andrew Bailey, John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka on the disabled list, there is a significant talent drain.

Look at this way. Right now, of the 25 players on the roster, five are All-Star caliber players. One is a DH and two are starting pitchers. Pedroia and Gonzalez are carrying a heavy load.

The good news is that Elllsbury, Bailey and Crawford will be back at some point. The question is whether it will be too late by then.

Just thought that was something interesting to post. Amazing how much the roster has fallen off.

This is the big thing to me. Guys like Gonzo and Petey can never take a day off or have a bad stretch. I hate watching the beginning of games when they show the starting defense or lineup and you see some combination of guys like Punto, Repko, Spears, Shoppach all starting. Some are nice backups and bench players sure, but until this team is healthy, lets face it, this is no way to structure a $170 million + payroll. Thats not even getting into what the bullpen currently consists of either.

Hopefully once they get past this weekends birthday series with the Yanks, they will start getting some guys back and develop some consistency in the bullpen. Hang on tight, its gonna be a bumpy ride haha

Man the more I read this, look at it and think about it(which I can't stop doing) its really depressing me

Dice-K will start a rehab assignment in Single-A on Monday.

Wow, good for him. Would be a great story if he were able to get back to decent form and contribute this year. He is now on the clock, I believe they have 30 days from when he starts to activate him.

I'm really trying to be patient w/ this team b/c of all the injuries but my gawd this is pathetic. I'm a Red Sox fan win or lose until the day I die but it's getting to the point to where I don't even want to turn the game on b/c I know we are going to get killed. We basically have a Triple-A team out there trying to win games in the AL. How did this team & our farm system get this bad in the short of a time?

@aaronmgoldsmith: Will Middlebrooks in 15 games: .370, 6-HR, 20-RBI, 9 multi-hit games, 4x 3-R HR. Last 7 games: 5-HR, 15 RBI, 4x 3+ RBI, 5x 2+ hits. #RedSox

Getting to the point where I can't talk about them without cursing profusely. This is a sinking ship right now, imagine if Crawford sucks when he comes back....scary thought, just like the OF we are starting these days and the bullpen we run out there.
