The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

@GordonEdes: A scout today on MIddlebrooks: "Electrifying" power. Compared him favorably to Angels prized rookie Mark Trumbo

Also, Sweeney has been activated & is in the lineup today. Lin was sent back down.

Can't believe Atchinson is pitching this well, some things you really can't explain. Hopefully Pedroia doesn't miss any time, I saw wrist on twitter and that sounds worse than jammed thumb. Verlander tomorrow, good time for a day off for Petey anyway ha.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone and their family!

This is an opportune time for the young guns to show what they can do....the youth movement in Boston is needed. The rest of the division is struggling as well, no one seems to be capable of pulling away.

These younger guys are really talented, and will be a factor to the success achieved this year.

I just don't understand how this team continues to play the way they have been, they've won 16 of their last 22. Going into todays game against the Blue Jays the Sox are 2.5 back from 1st in the AL East & .5 game back of the Yankees.

If this team finds a way to make the postseason w/ all these injuries & w/ the way the season started does Bobby V. win manager of the year? He just keeps pushing all the right buttons.

& how about Daniel Nava? This kid is really stepping up when called upon, he wasn't even invited to Spring Training this season after being put on waivers last year & no one claiming him. Now he is just raking.

I really like the lineup of Gonzalez in RF, Youkilis at 1B, & Middlebrooks at 3B. It seems that Middlebrooks has made adjustments & has gotten comfortable in the bigs.

We should be getting Ross & Pedroia back soon. I hope Ellsbury can back it back this season. I'm not to worried about Crawford or Bailey ATP.

That was by far the worst outing I've ever seen. If Bard makes another start it will be ridiculous!!! Send his butt to the bullpen.

Bard sucks

As a starter yes, he has completely went away from the way he pitches. Bard is/was a strike throwing machine & rarely walked batters. Now thats all he does.

He needs to be moved back to the pen & stay there. He is way more affective in that role.

How do you guys feel about the first round of the draft? I'd have to say I'm underwhelmed...seems like they went best available with Marrero, hopefully Johnson can show more as a pitcher once he concentrates fully on that as his craft and the kid Light looks the part, but honestly doesn't seem to be nearly the quality of some of our recent picks like Ranaudo, Barnes etc.

I don't disagree with making "safe" picks, especially in baseball when its so hard to project some of these kids, but with three early picks I would have liked to see something with a little more risk/reward potential with one of the picks. Wouldn't surprise me if Light was the best of the three, has a good fastball from what I read, only walked 16 in over 100 innings and should benefit greatly from our minor league development system. Looking forward to some of the other guys they pick up going forward!

Edit: Also looking forward to Daniel Bard either A)getting sent to the minors to continue starting B)moving back to the bullpen or C)remembering how to throw harder than 93, whichever comes first.

Seemed like guys they knew they could sign cheap. Not a huge fan of either guy. Johnson shocked me a ton after they took marrero first.

Seemed like marrero was the 'easy sign' then they were gonna go high ceiling on the next pick, and didn't.

I agree. I think all three could be viewed as 'easy signs' very interested in what they do going forward the rest of the draft.

Austin Maddox is another good but underwhelming pitcher.

Ty Buttrey, if they can sign him away from Arkansas (maybe they can, with earlier safe picks), has a chance to be a star. A legit star.

Bard has been sent to AAA & McDonald has been called up. They need to move Bard to the pen & keep him there.

Pedroia is back in the lineup tonight.

Ross could be back in a week.

Ellsbury was playing catch from 90 feet today.

Bailey was tossing from 120 feet today

Crawford was hitting off a tee today.

@bradfo: Ellsbury hit off tee today; Ross hit with no pain; Crawford not clears to throw yet.

Kalish is in AAA now. Dice-K may start Saturday against the Nationals.

@aaronmgoldsmith: Ryan Kalish is now 2-for-2 with a walk as he lines an RBI single to LF. Now has 3 RBI to go along with a 2-run homer. #RedSox
