The *OFFICIAL* Brandon Spikes thread (merged)

I've never seen that. He obviously should have been flagged. But I think that can fall into "part of the game". If the dude had been wanting to hurt Tebow, he wouldn't have chestbumped him.

So a blindside hit to someone not looking after the play is over is ok but putting your fingers inside someone's facemask and not touching his eyes is a heinous crime?

It's not OK. You could at least argue the guy was attempting to make some impact on the game there. Had the guy elbowed Tebow, that would have been more similar to an eye gouge. And I highly doubt it wasn't a cheap shot, but you could argue that guy thought it was play-action instead of an actual handoff.

That punch and Spikes deal aren't even in the same ballpark.

The eye gouge wasn't a helmet-to-helmet hit or something that might have been done in an effort to make a play. I understand they happened at different points in time, which really affects how they are perceived, but they were both unnecessary attacks captured on camera. Also, I haven't heard anything about the Boise State player complaining. I guess Blount shouldn't have gotten in trouble.

Let's make it 38,001 times... I never said Spikes should not have gotten in trouble. I said he deserved a one game suspension. What don't you get about that?

What don't you get about my request for you to provide an instance from a similar football incident with the victim complaining? If you don't feel the need to defend Spikes, why post the Ealey quotes?

"Florida is begging for an adult to lead them. Meyer isn’t it when it comes to player conduct. "

This is a direct quote from an article by Dan Wetzel on Meyer's so-called punishment of Spikes for the eye-gouging.

I have no doubt that if Spurrier was still at UF, Spikes would be sitting out at least 2 games. Any player that tries to poke out somebody's eye is a scumbag. I would say the same thing if it was a Vol.

I heard that both Meyer and Tbag gave Spikes a good spanking. One so good that sitting for a half will hurt worse than not playing.

Here's the bottom line. There should be a minimum of a one game suspension.

What is bothering people here is the suspension is a non-punishment and UM really didn't seem to have a problem with it. Perhaps it's an unfortunate choice of words when UM says he doesn't "condone" the action but that sure sounds like he doesn't see much wrong with it. I think most people would like to see a acknowledgement that this type behavior has NO place in football and will not be tolerated.

Both our UF commentators on this issue began by dismissing the action as no big deal. When punishment was handed down, they've gone to hyperbole (e.g. we want him arrested, etc.).

In the end, we'd just like to see some sign that UM cares about anything but winning at all costs. Looks like we'll never see that.

Why wouldn't I be here? Everyone is so warm and accomodating.
