The Official Cubs Thread Of The Volnation

Alls I know is Cubs are gonna have to be spectacular to make the post season. We need more guys in the bullpen, first off. I persoanlly think we need more hitters at the bottom of the rotation.

If we can get that, we've got a shot. If not, try again next season.

Wooooooo! Perez hits a grand slam in the 10th to win it for the Cubs!

Cubs win 8-4, win the series over STL 2-1

Cubs have a tough road. The division is out of reach and they are 5.5 out of the Wild Card, but have 4-5 teams in front of them. I'm seeing 85 wins and another lonely October in their future.

Well me and you have a diffrent vision. I see we are about to play the weak Giants and the weak Diamond backs. dont be mad cause your team got wooped by the d-backs today. just remember we are coming fot you. cant wait to get another shot at ATL.

why does it matter how many teams are ahead of us? all of those teams are in the same divison and are going to start beating up on each other. I am only worried about one team, and that is the team leading the wild card.

It matters because they've got to pass all of them. There's a big difference between being 4.5 out and in 2nd place vs being 4.5 out but in 5th place.

The Cubs aren't dead by any means, but they better make a run in the couple of weeks before one of those teams separates themselves.

But what I am saying is the cubs dont care about any of the others, just the leader of the wildcard. I see your point, but the cubs have a weak schedule coming up.... So I feel we can make up some ground here with ATL about to play the nationals. one of them two teams are going to be at the top of the wildcard at the end of the series and if the cubs have a good series aginst San Fran then the cubs can be right back in it imo. But we will have to wait and see, great win by the cubs today!!!

That is true. I should have thought of that since I'm going to be at the game on Tuesday. John Smoltz vs. Livan Hernandez - pretty sweet!

Oh yes it will be. I am actually rooting for ATl to just start dominating their divison so the rest of there division will start losing. I mean the nationals are on a steady slump. I am hoping for a ATl sweep and we will be closer. the cubs have a big Phillies sieries coming up in a week or so so I am ready to see what is going to happed.

p.s. nomar is making his rehab starts and will be with the team later in the week.

It's gonna be tough, but if Cubs can put together good runs in the 2nd half, then we'll be seeing some blue stripes come october.

...and, right on cue, Kerry Wood visits the DL for about the 50th time. At what point does this guy become a bust?

never. dust announced he will now be coming out of the bullpen. for one of two innings, this guy could be amazing. can anyone say closer?

Maybe so . . . it worked for John Smoltz. The guy IS amazing . . . when he's healthy which is unfortunately only about 50% of the time.

Doubt the Cubs would just stick him in at closer right off the bat though. Dempster has been pretty good, and Curt Schilling proved that the transition isn't as easy as it looks.

yeah no doubt. but if wood stays in the bullpen, I really think he came be as good of a setup man as tom gordon for the yankees has been for years. the one two punch of wood and dempster could make our bullpen solid.

it did work on smoltz. but how long was smoltz a starter, at that a healthy starter? smoltz has been awesome for a long time. kerry is hobbled and will prolly be out of chicago in a year or two if he doesnt get healthy and stay healthy.

that is true. Hill had a decent outing today. 5 innings 2 runs. I hope the cubs can get something and get the win today.

a couple games later, the cubs are 11.5 behind in the central at 3rd and tied for 3rd in the wild card at 3.5 behind. they are tied with the mets and are behind the streaking astros and the slumping nationals. seems like last year, astros and cubs for the wild card. who will make a move this year? will the cubs sit and wait it out like they did last year or will they learn from it and make a move to improve their chances like the astros did last year? i believe that within 1 week and a half, maybe sooner, the stros will be in the lead for the wild card with the cubs, nationals, and mets all within a game or two behind.

The Astros sure look poised to make a push. Clemens, Petitte and Oswalt are tough.

Cubs aren't doing too bad though. I think 2345 told me, Cubs have won 16 of the last 20? And hopefully we will be doing even better, despite Wood going on the DL.

i think we are better off with hill than with wood anyways. it was highlighted on sportscenter, that when hill is on, his curve is almost exactly like zitos curve.

It is a really nasty curve. Wood is a chance as a closer, but he does pitch pretty well in the opening innings and is warmed up relatively fast.

i see wood as more of a setup/long relief guy.he could be a guy to come in during the 7/8 innings and setup for dempster.
