i wouldn't say the races are predetermined like pro wrestling, but they don't have a problem throwing a late caution to bunch the field up. nor do they have a problem throwing a yellow when somebody is about to go down a lap.
they added two more drivers to the Chase the year Fale missed it by a few spots. they re-did the rules for the Bud Shootout to make him (and several other) drivers eligible as well. nobody has ever fixed a victory for him. too many people would have to be in on it to pull it off.
it's time for NASCAR to move on. not only will he never win a championship, he may never win another race either. this year is a major turning point. they've done everything they can do for him and that includes NASCAR and his owner.
Totally hypothetical -
I don't intend for this question to sound as exacting as it undoubtedly will, its not posed directly at you Dooz (but anyone who has a more informed opinion than I do about these things), but just so I understand what you guys believe that NASCAR is capable of or is at least plausible:
Would NASCAR knowingly, intentionally and covertly do something to give Junior (or any other driver, I suppose) a competitive advantage, however small - either in a given race, over the course of a season, or even a career?
On one hand, throwing phantom debris cautions to bunch up the field seems like a relatively innocuous thing (self-serving, for sure), but in another, it is an actual manipulation of the competitive balance of the race (however seemingly mild) itself.
So, if its as (seemingly) widely known that they do things like throwing phantom cautions, isn't it possible that they could do other - and more direct - forms of manipulation, too.
And let me say this - there is no hidden agenda here, no nonsensical argument that drivers aren't somehow as expertly skilled as they are, or that the entirety of NASCAR is somehow crooked or fixed. Instead, I'm trying to see where you guys think the truth lands between the two extremes - phantom cautions and flat-out giving a particular driver a distinct and secret competitive advantage.
And, to add some icing on the cake of the worst NASCAR forum post in the history of VN:
1. I think Jr. wins 3-5 races this season.
2. I think that he makes The Chase.
3. I think he challenges for the title this season (Top 5) - if not wins it outright.
4. And he will win more than one championship before retiring.
What do I base this on? Little more than wishful thinking, really. But, I think that having some stability on his team (I think his current CC stays with him for awhile) - coupled with what appears to be some newfound although humbled maturity - starts to finally produce the results that most expected from him (or now chide him for failing to produce, thus far), albeit possibly far sooner than he was capable to provide.
As far as his being a lackluster or below-average driver, I am most comfortable in placing infinitely more faith in what his dad so obviously believed them to be, instead of what his detractors wish to be true.
At least if I'm wrong, I'd rather it be with Sr.'s opinion, instead.
JMO, TIFWIW, IMHO, MY.$02
