2 straight top 10 finishes. i believe that he is now leading the Hendrick camp in the point standings after 3 races

Martin Truex and Marcos Ambrose were in the top 10 also. try again.

what do they have to do with the hendrick camp? either you misread, or you're just retarded. after seeing the point standings he is tied w/ mark martin in the hendrick camp

I like the guy; I don't pull for him but he's in a no-win world. He's driving a little better this season, but I don't know if he'll hit victory lane... I'd enjoy seeing him hit his pit box though.

Driving with a hendrick motor under your hood and havn't won in like 100 races is all you really need to know.

Yes he will. Nascar will change the rules until he qualifies.

Serious question from a NASCAR novice:

If you really believe that's true, how do you follow the sport and take it seriously? Doesn't that make it WWE with cars, essentially?

I ask the question because its usually the most knowledgeable and/or ardent NASCAR fans who are most quick / vocal to allege that the governing body has or is willing to give an advantage to a particular driver when it suits them. I wonder how you (not OP, alone) reconciles that fact, if true?

I don't think the fix is in nearly as often as some people do, but you have to remember that at it's core NASCAR is a family owned advertising business.

i wouldn't say the races are predetermined like pro wrestling, but they don't have a problem throwing a late caution to bunch the field up. nor do they have a problem throwing a yellow when somebody is about to go down a lap.

they added two more drivers to the Chase the year Fale missed it by a few spots. they re-did the rules for the Bud Shootout to make him (and several other) drivers eligible as well. nobody has ever fixed a victory for him. too many people would have to be in on it to pull it off.

it's time for NASCAR to move on. not only will he never win a championship, he may never win another race either. this year is a major turning point. they've done everything they can do for him and that includes NASCAR and his owner.

Totally hypothetical -

I don't intend for this question to sound as exacting as it undoubtedly will, its not posed directly at you Dooz (but anyone who has a more informed opinion than I do about these things), but just so I understand what you guys believe that NASCAR is capable of or is at least plausible:

Would NASCAR knowingly, intentionally and covertly do something to give Junior (or any other driver, I suppose) a competitive advantage, however small - either in a given race, over the course of a season, or even a career?

On one hand, throwing phantom debris cautions to bunch up the field seems like a relatively innocuous thing (self-serving, for sure), but in another, it is an actual manipulation of the competitive balance of the race (however seemingly mild) itself.

So, if its as (seemingly) widely known that they do things like throwing phantom cautions, isn't it possible that they could do other - and more direct - forms of manipulation, too.

And let me say this - there is no hidden agenda here, no nonsensical argument that drivers aren't somehow as expertly skilled as they are, or that the entirety of NASCAR is somehow crooked or fixed. Instead, I'm trying to see where you guys think the truth lands between the two extremes - phantom cautions and flat-out giving a particular driver a distinct and secret competitive advantage.

And, to add some icing on the cake of the worst NASCAR forum post in the history of VN:

1. I think Jr. wins 3-5 races this season.
2. I think that he makes The Chase.
3. I think he challenges for the title this season (Top 5) - if not wins it outright.
4. And he will win more than one championship before retiring.

What do I base this on? Little more than wishful thinking, really. But, I think that having some stability on his team (I think his current CC stays with him for awhile) - coupled with what appears to be some newfound although humbled maturity - starts to finally produce the results that most expected from him (or now chide him for failing to produce, thus far), albeit possibly far sooner than he was capable to provide.

As far as his being a lackluster or below-average driver, I am most comfortable in placing infinitely more faith in what his dad so obviously believed them to be, instead of what his detractors wish to be true.

At least if I'm wrong, I'd rather it be with Sr.'s opinion, instead.

JMO, TIFWIW, IMHO, MY.$02

I for one do not believe NASCAR would or could set up a driver to win. There are too many drivers trying to win for that to be possible. They do manipulate the rules and use of cautions to improve "The Show", words used by NASCAR. If Junior were to win would definitely improve the show to a large number of fans.

I believe you are unrealistically optimistic for Junior's success this year, however, I do expect him to win a race, would not be surprised if he made the Chase, but give him little chance to win a Champ.

no question. the day races become fixed is the day i quit watching. the money it would take to fix a race and the unknown variables in the race are too many for it to ever happen.

it's no surprise the decline of Fale and the the decline of NASCAR seemingly go hand in hand.
