THE OFFICIAL DUKE/UNC B-BALL THREAD 2020/21 (WORSE, SLOWER, MORE MASKS, LESS FANS, LESS W’s)

Am I getting too excited or is the light starting to flicker for Roach? Is Brakefield real? What a week it’s been.

That was some big time basketball last night. Hitting big shots and getting stops at the right times. That was impressive. Now let’s hope they didn’t expend too much energy last night and blow it against Syracuse tomorrow.

I thought you were talking about Carolina’s performance at first. 😜

Shocking how teams magically play better when a player leaves/gets the boot.

Kick the blue bloods while you can cause eventually they put it together and right the wrongs.

Umm yeah ... WTH was that? I had it on and it was about a 5 point game, next thing I know one of my buddies texted me that Carolina was up 45. UNC must’ve played out of their mind and I think Louisville hadn’t played in almost 3 weeks and were missing 1 or 2 guys. That was an annihilation. The Duke/UNC game 2 might not be a battle for the ACC, but for the last 4 in. What a time to be alive .

When the potential lottery pick is playing lazy with the ball and el toro defense that garbage is contagious. I don’t care what Bilas says, it’s been Addition by subtraction if said talented player doesn’t play hard.

Jay Bilas is a crack pot anyway. I know he played for Duke but when a team is good, and loaded he should give credit where credit is due.

Duke seems to have turned the corner, Carolina jumped on a weak Louisville team, and I don’t have any clue what Kentucky is doing.

Here’s to next season and the end of the blue bloods being trash.

Jay kind of gets my nerves, actually both Jay’s from Duke do. Bilas is really smart, but he tries to let everyone know that he is and it becomes obnoxious. His NCAA takes are always one sided, and while I do think the athletes do need to be taken care of, I don’t think it’s always needs to favor the athlete. His take on Jalen Johnson was a prime example the other day.

As far as Duke and UNC go for this season I’m actually excited for the first time all year, at least for Duke. It’s easy to be excited when you see these guys playing good basketball and playing hard defensively. If Duke can pull off a few more tough wins and eek into the Tournament I think it will be fun to be the hunter for once . We’ll see what happens. 4 big basketball games left to be played, including a huge one tonight vs Syracuse where both teams have a pretty similar resume.

That was my point as well, if they both can clean some things up on both sides of the ball and continue to build off these wins then they’re the last team I’d want to see come tournament time.

While I know they beat up on some not great teams sometimes that’s all they need to really get going.

I think both Jays go out of there way to not seem to be Duke homers. It’s a tough spot, but both go too far. I’m glad Williams does NBA and morning stuff now.

It is a tough spot to be in for sure, but they both defintely seem to be overly critical at times. They want Jay to basically be the Herbstreit equivalent on the bbball side, but i think Herbstreit does a better job overall of being objective. Jay Williams is just kind of an interesting/weird guy altogether. I’ve been around him a few times in social settings through mutual friends and he’s kind of an aloof, arrogant kind of guy. It’s a shame that his accident derailed his pro career. He’s probably the best point guard I’ve even seen at Duke, obviously I put Kyrie into a different kind of category since he only played 11 games.

I got to be around Bilas in a professional setting when he’d cover the Tourney for CBS and thought he was a really good guy. He’s very aware of the moment and incredibly smart. I could see that it could come off the wrong way

Disagree all you want. Unless we’re talking about superstars, a guy who can defend and can’t score is playing more than a guy who can score and can’t defend, because that’s not helping your team much.

The most in-demand players are those who can shoot and defend multiple positions - someone like Gary Trent is more valuable in the NBA than Hurt will probably ever be (and more than Jabari Parker and Jahlil Okafor and Austin Rivers and our other scorers ever have been). Okafor and Parker have both approached 20 PPG in the pros before and where are they now?

I don't think most fans actually understand what the differences are in defense at that level. These numbers aren't inflated right now because nobody is playing D. They are inflated because we have a huge stable of legitimate superstars and a very spread out game where organizations finally figured out 3's are smarter than long 2's. Because offensive numbers are up, casuals confuse this with a lack of quality D. The focus on quality defenders in roster building is probably at an all-time high. Look at these teams that make the finals each year and notice how many rotation guys they have that can defend the perimeter.

no. so much of this is false. but you'll stick to your guns and it's exhausting watching you flail at your points, so I'm not posting about it again. D is a very weak area in the NBA by choice

Has anybody gone over to the bball forum and looked at that meltdown? And people want to convince themselves that we’re a basketball school. SMH. People need to get a grip.
