The Official Larry Fedora Thread I

The more I see about Fedora, the more I like him. He can obviously coach, and I have no recruiting concerns. Pretty amazing that the incompetent Dooley was able to pull off top 20 classes with how horribly the high schools are talking about him. Imagine what a good coach could do. Recruiting is the least of our concerns, folks. Tennessee sells itself with a decent coach at the helm.

We need fedora. His recruiting and coaching have been proving. Just look where Southern Miss is now after he left. This guy is the real deal. Big name or not, he knows how to get recruits. He should be our number 1.

Southern miss is in a **** hole. Jus sayin

He really hasn't done anything special. While Southern Miss didn't get worse under his watch, they also didn't get much better either. Can't say anything about his time at UNC because its only been 1 year but in that one year its been status quo.
Are we really that pathetic, that we would be thrilled being just mediocre again? Do we not have any desire to actually win the SEC East, SEC, or a national title? He's produced mediocre teams in mediocre conferences. Coming to the SEC would expose all his flaws that have been hidden by coaching against mediocre competition. Losing to Marshall and UAB in your best season as a HC is not impressive.
We need a coach that has been dominant against mediocre competition.

If theres a single person in here saying this would be an acceptable hire but Strong wouldn't be then they really need to get a grip on reality. At least Strong has done the same thing Fedora has done against a little better competition and in a shorter amount of time.
Out of Fedora, Strong and Golden my order would be:
1. Strong
2. Fedora
3. Golden

I love when chicken littles like you conviniently leave out facts to fit your agenda. Yeah he lost to Marshall and UAB. But you conviniently forgot to mention that he s-it stomped Kevin Sumlin's Houston Cougars 49-28 to win Conference USA title. At the time Houston was ranked #6 and had a Heistman candidate at QB. He also stepped into a pretty tough situation at UNC and has done quite well IMO. They've lost oodles of talent to the NFL the last two years.
While he will need to hire a good DC, I'm starting to like this guy more and more. And I think he's a young star in the making.

Again, this dude wasn't even in my top 5. But now that it's becoming obvious that the Gruden thing isn't looking good, I've stepped back and started to re-evaluate the situation. Fedora is looking better and better IMO.

You wanna know how good Fedora is?

The team he just left went 0-12. After they went 12-2. And he's taken over a mess at UNC. And can recruit.

He should be #3 behind Gruden and Stoops.

I agree with this. Maybe it's just the scare of hearing names like Golden more and more lately that have me taking a closer look but I like this guy's resume. I think he could be a great coach. It seems like everywhere he's been there has been improvement from one year to the next. If we can't get a Gruden, Stoops, Shaw, Patterson or Petersen I would be happy with CLF. Go Vols!

If not Gruden, then I'm all for Fedora. It seems his only problem this year at NC was the defense. Since we have the money to spend, do you think it's possible to get Fedora and a proven D coordinator like Chavis?

Maybe not Chavis himself, but we'd have the money to get a very good D coordinator. Rockyvols' idea of Dan Disch is fine with me considering he and Fedora were a fantastic tag team at USM

Fedora would be a very good hire. He is not a splash hire buts a good solid coach.

Probably could still get Kevin Steele as DC. Fedora has already put together a top 20 class at UNC.

Don't get it twisted, this guy is NO home run hire. I'd put him at the top of my third tier of coaches, though.

Third Tier?

Lets be realistic here.

Larry Fedora is a very good coach and with the right staff in place could be dangerous.

Gruden was the only possible "homerun" hire. The more I research Fedora, the more I like him. Other than his track record, I looked up articles after some of his wins and losses. He never calls out his players, he takes responsibility, and promises improvement. His player's comments are very encouraging as well. They try hard because they fear letting him down.

Third tier is an insult.

This would remind me a lot of the Brady Hoke or Kevin Sumlin hires. Wouldn't make immediate noise but with the right staff would prove to be a pretty darn good hire.
