This would remind me a lot of the Brady Hoke or Kevin Sumlin hires. Wouldn't make immediate noise but with the right staff would prove to be a pretty darn good hire.

Gruden was the only possible "homerun" hire. The more I research Fedora, the more I like him. Other than his track record, I looked up articles after some of his wins and losses. He never calls out his players, he takes responsibility, and promises improvement. His player's comments are very encouraging as well. They try hard because they fear letting him down.

Third tier is an insult.

The guy lost to Duke and was pretty much beaten by NCSU. Just sayin...he's not a sure-thing.

No such thing as pretty much beaten imo. They hadnt beat ncstate in 6 years. He lost to uab and marshall last year at usm but still finished 12-2 with conf champ over the number 6 team.

In his first year as a coach at UNC. Saban lost to La Monroe his first year. No one is a sure thing but the dude is 8-4 at UNC, never had a losing record at USM. Looks better than what we put on the field the past few years.

Based on performance alone, I don't see anyone else better than him that is realistically out there.

Ill admit i never thought id hear the possibility of fedora being coach for the vols. His greatest accomplishment besides the 12 win season at usmwas bringing tradition back(nasty bunch). Lol and ellis ruined that in one year.

I'll bet that Jimbo Fisher and Fedora are at the top with Charlie Strong, Al Golden and Butch Davis in the second tier. Dark Horse...Jim Tressel with Greg Roman in the mix if we cannot land a HC.

We REALLY hope you guys don't steal Fedora away from us. UNC was on the verge of greatness before the NCAA troubles broke with Butch Davis.

Fedora gave us an 8-4 season and a killer offense.

Three of UNC's losses were by less than 6 points COMBINED.

Not really. Coaches and parents have said "we're interested if Gruden is hired." That's a homerun hire. Five star recruits aren't clamoring to play for Gary Patterson.

Patterson may be the better hire long run, who knows, but he's not a "homerun".

Dont' be an ass to the guy just because he's never heard of Larry Fedora. I hadn't until I watched USM play Houston last year. Still didn't know much about the guy until I saw his name listed on here.
