The Official Larry Fedora Thread I

If that's where we're at, then its depressing. The SEC has more money than anyone, we've become an NFL farm league, and we're content to settle. And I like Fedora.

Strong has had the same coordinator success that Muschamp had and he now has the HC experience and success. UF is a better program than us and have been for 20 years yet they've "settled" for a Mountain West coach and a successful defensive coordinator as their last two coaches and we see how they've fared.

Great post!

Outside of Spurrier and Saban hires, no other hire at these successful programs would've went over well with the delusionals.

From what ive gathered, fedora didnt interview today. Still tryin to find out for sure. I firmly believe he is in the mix for sure

I bet you tried to make the same argument on Sumlin. If you have a successful system, which Sumlin and Fedora have, the prominent teams in the SEC will surround you with the best assistants elsewhere. Fedora was the OC at UF for three year but he admitted he was the real OC only his last year. That last year produced the best passer, rusher, and receiver in the same season. The first time ever in SEC. Strong or Fedora would be great hires.

Nice try, but Fedoras record speaks for itself. He's never dominated a conference even in his best season. So far he's taken 2 mediocre programs and kept them mediocre. Also his history as an OC means nothing, theres been hundreds of coordinators that have been given credit for being great at a program and then went on to be mediocre or worse HCs.
Finally the last thing UT needs is an offensive minded coach. If you look at our roster Dolley was good at getting O talent but he swung and missed on almost all of our D. We need a great DC and HC that can come i and not only teach but recruit D talent.
If you look at UNCs schedule from this year you will see Fedoras "system" that you speak of was to score as much as possible and hope ur D can get a few stops. Well we all saw how well that "system" worked in the SEC. We had an awesome offense that could light up the score board even against SEC D's, but we also had a D that allowed the other teams to almost score at will.
To me Fedora is a Dooley 2.0. He's faced Strongs SEC style D and he's failed to beat it either time. This isn't Florida, Fedora isn't gonna have the talent he did there to make up for his lack of a D that he will have here for at least the first few years.

Lmao to the fedora vs strong. Its pretty safe to say that i believe any kid that had an offer from louisville, usm, and unc would all go to louisville. Fedora had strong beat in bowl game. Refer to the louisville RB fumble. He also lost to louisville only by 5 this year. Plus they were ranked. Strong got beat by uconn syracuse and won in the final minute against usm who went 0-12. Louisville gave up avgerage 24 ppg. Unc gave up 25 ppg. Last i checked the ACC is much tougher than the big east.

Like someone else said, I guess the Hat coach could succeed eventually....it will take him or anyone else a good 3-4 years to reach the middle of the conference. Not to beat a dead Horse but Gruden could have recruited good enough to have us competitive in 2 years

So based on this you thought Sumlin would've been an awful hire last year if we fired Dooley. Good call. Fedora is Dooley 2.0? Winning everywhere he has been makes you Dooley 2.0? Fedora isn't going to have the talent here that he did there? Dumb.

Ok I like this guy now that I have done some research.

The thing that caught my eye was that he has never had a losing season.

Also he coached at Air Force so he will have a disciplined program.

I say we give this guy a serious look

That is all it takes, just a little research. Fedora should be our next head coach.

So basically neither strong nor fedora would be good HCs in SEC. Hopefully Hart pulls something out of his ass because I don't see this turning out well.

Patently false. Fedora has a winning record. Always has. No one UT is considering has "dominated" their conference because at the moment Saban is the only candidate for that criteria, even though you claim, "even in his best year" which in fact he did. You're a dumbass.

I posted this in the Strong thread. It sums up my reasoning why I'd want Strong over Fedora.
Between Strong and Fedora I think solid points could be made for either. Both have unexplainable losses both have some ok wins. Both have been succesful. For me it comes down to the fact that Defense wins championships. UT was a juggernaut on offense this year in many games and still had crap to show for it. We need a defensive minded coach not only for our immediate issues but also our championship aspirations.

This didn't account for my feelings about his loss to Duke. Living in ACC country that's akin to being beat by KY. That's a stinker even if you credit Cut and even if you like the guy. IMO

As long as we get Strong I'm fine with this. I honestly would've felt pretty bad about taking UNC's coach after one year, although I would've loved having him as ours.

My exact feelings. I eventually see gundy leaving okie state in a few years and fedora going back there if he keeps winning.

Fedora was at a UNC Bball game last night, so unless he had a LATE night flight or early AM today, the rumors about him interviewing at UT today were unfounded.

We're keeping the Fedora !!!

BTW, whaddya' think about NC State hiring orthern Illinois' Dave Doeren as their new HC?

Seems like they were shooting kinda low. OK, he's won the MAC, but BFD.

'11 12-2
UNC
'12 8-4

42-23 overall

Even including his 1 good season at SM he averages 8-5 a year as a HC. Leading us to mediocrity is what got Fulmer fired. I understand Kiffin burnt us and Dooley just sucked but that doesn't mean we should suddenly be happy hiring Mr. Mediocre.
Strong has completed a 10-2 regular season in less time and in a better conference. Fedoras had 5 years to prove himself and he has, he's mediocre. Strong has only had 3. Oh and Fedora lost to Strong in a bowl game in his 3rd year as a HC and Strongs 1st.

Edit: Fedora also lost to Strong again this past season.

Fedora was 8-4 in his FIRST season, coming off of a year where UNC had lost their HC (Butch Davis) a week before practice began.

AND, three of Fedora's losses were by less than 10 points COMBINED !!!

You WANT Fedora, but you're not getting him . . . at least this year, anyway.

WE LOVE FEDORA IN CHAPEL HILL !!!

I think Doeren is a great hire. The Heels are going to have to worry about State.

I'm glad Fedora is staying here. Provided Tennessee gets someone like Strong. Would rather have Fedora than Fisher though.

To be fair, one of those losses was to Wake freaking Forest. Really? And if it were anybody but Vic Koenning, I'd say that giving up 68 to Georgia Tech off a bye is grounds for immediate firing.
