In all fairness, UNC was a tough situation for any coach to take over when he did. And they've lost basically everyone to the NFL that Davis and crew brought in. His talent (besides the RB) was average to good.
I like most of what he did at Southern Miss. But that performance the year after he left concerns me. Not everything going down with an 0-12 program is the fault of a first-year head coach. Some of the responsibility has to rest with the talent-level the previous coach left behind. I'd want someone to actually talk to folks down in Hattiesburg and find out how much of the fault rests with Johnson and how much is on Fedora.
This being said, Fedora did fine work getting those UNC kids to buy in to what he was trying to do in the face of a ban from post-season competition.
Definitely warrants a look. The overall resume is impressive.
You should obviously let one game be your entire judgment of a coach. Nick Saban sucks because he lost to UL-Monroe his first year.
Even Saban isn't getting much higher than 3* to Southern Miss. Plus almost everyone agrees that Ellis Johnson was just really bad.
We have offense. WE NEED DEFENSE. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. I like Fedora, but Charlie Strong is who we need right now. Also, Southern Miss returned 13 starters, so they had some of that talent back.

No, Fedora regularly had teams with no D. He was mr. 7-6 a year until he had a great year and bumped up. He lost to Strong, Cutcliffe, and GA Tech all in one year! 2 meh candidates and a school that UGA held to 3 pts until a late garbage TD.
I've lived in south ms since 2008 and this is what I know about fedora:
1. He had a very efficient offense scheme and his teams were competitive on both sides of the ball.
2. USM fans loved him and knew he was going to eventually leave bc they understand USM is a stepping stone school.
3. USM usually got the leftover MS recruits after LSU, UA, Ole Miss, and MSU. However, ms has outstanding HS and juco football talent, so those leftovers were pretty solid. Fedora did land USM's only 5 star recruit---Deandre Brown. Brown picked USM over LSU and had a very promising career before attitude problems found him in fedora's doghouse (note: this is important to note that fedora benched his best player bc he thought he was bigger than the team. Big plus for fedora in my opinion).
4. This year's USM team went 0-12. Fedora's last team flirted with a potential BCS bowl appearance before losing a late season game to UAB. After that loss, they destroyed top 10 ranked u of Houston in the CUSA championship game (played at Houston). Part of the reason fedora was so successful this year was bc the 5th year senior qb running his spread offense. The 2012 disaster of a season was caused by a combination of breaking in a new qb, the loss of fedora, and Johnson's deficiencies as a hc. USM fired Johnson after the last game. All this to say that fedora didn't leave USM without players. However, he did leave at the perfect time since there was no chance he could have duplicated the 2011 success while breaking in a new QB in 2012.
In conclusion, I believe fedora would be an excellent hire for us. He has an OC background and has been successful as a HC. He is also young and his players apparently love him. He may not be the sexy hire, but would us competing with everyone on our schedule (including bama) in 3 years. I'm hoping for fedora if we can't get a hr hire (gruden).
Haven't met any ut fans down here yet. Too bad we didn't make a bowl game. I'd suggest trying to coordinate some VN people in the area to get together to watch. Maybe next season.
I'll be honest. I think it's hypocritical to have gotten pissed about Kiffin leaving after a year and then turn around and do the same thing to another school.
