For the people that weren't there, they weren't ready to move on. Ben, for instance wasn't ready. Remember Desmond saying Anna Lucia wasn't ready.

Anna Lucia they kind of explained; in the last episode when she let out Sayid and Kate to Desmond, Hugo asked Desmond something like "What about her?" and he replied "She's not ready". So I guess she was kind of like Ben in a way, not ready to go.

But Mr. Eko, Walt, and Michael doesn't make sense to me.

That old ragged tennis shoe hanging in the tree at the end in the bamboo. Where the same ones as jack was wearing in the very first episode. He died in the same bamboo as he originally awoke, and came out of the jungle.

I think somehow the whole thing was purgatory. purgatory being the place were souls are cleansed for what is owed.

Makes sense since Ben didn't want to go into the church.

So.....they all live long lives and grew to old and eventually died, but all remember each other they way were on the island when all of them were together?

Yeah that's why Christian said their time on the island was the "most important of their lives".

Well a lot of people died on the island of course. Hurley, Ben, and Desmond were on the island but who is to say Desmond didn't get off. Remember what Ben told Hurley at the end.

Even though it didn't answer nearly as much as I wanted, it was a very good ending. All of the "awakenings/flashbacks" were awesome.

The island wasn't purgatory dude. The sideways world was, i think. Don't go around tooting your horn.

No. The shoe was in the tree in the first episode.

Agreed. I'm not one to drink the writer's koolaid, but I thought the show ended very well. Did everything get explained? No. Are there possible conflicts if someone looks hard enough? Probably. But you'll never satisfy those folks anyway.

I think they all died on their own time, but it took all of them coming together until they could finally move on. The alternate time line does appear to be a purgatory.

i'm still trying to wrap my mind around it fully. my initial reaction was that they were both part of purgatory, but i could be wrong.
