The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

I really had no problem with him until he just flat out dumped Chase last year at Martinsville. It made for great entertainment though. Problem was not necessarily that he dumped him it was that he flat out took him out and junked him and there was no reason for it. Denny is a helluva race car driver but that was garbage.

Yeah, I'm a Chase fan since Gordon retired and that move by Denny really ruffled my feathers.

It's looking like this race will probably be delayed till tomorrow. Rain all day in Atlanta.

I'm a huge Gordon fan too. It took me a while to get my enthusiasm back for NASCAR, it took me a while to find a driver to pull for , I knew it wouldn't b Jimmy tho.... I picked chase too. I wish Jeff could have got ahold of Hamlin like he did Burton and keslowske... Lol

So NASCAR is issuing air guns and hoses now. How much further are they going to go with micromanaging everything? How long before NASCAR starts issuing the cars to the teams?

Lots of stuff going on these days that is turning off the core audience chasing an audience they’ll never get.

Go back to Rubbings racing and quit giving stupid penalties. I miss Dale just as much as anyone else but HE wouldn’t have wanted this.

Saying that

What’ll bring NASCAR back in y’all opinion?

1. A track that isn’t the size of a lunchbox
2. A clear, understandable point system
3. To go along with tiny tracks, stop the time outs. It’s like a frigging hockey game.
4. Eliminations means they don’t have a car in the race. Way too much like Tennis at the end of the season. Gimme horse races not pennant races.

Iroc series before you know it...

I get they are trying to curb cost for smaller organizations, but give them specs and let them decide which brand or style.

The crazy thing is that with all of their so called cost cutting measures, they've lost numerous teams. Today's race only had a 36 car field. Last week, at Daytona no less, every car that entered made the field. I can remember not that long ago when they would have 60 cars show up to try and qualify for Daytona.

Dale would’ve been a good voice to have today. The former drivers and crew chiefs on TV that won’t man up, because they’re forced to kiss NASCAR’s ass. I’m talking to you, Mike and Darrell.

Gotta get fans back to the track. More fans means more sponsors. More sponsors gets you more teams.

First thing that needs to happen is to lower ticket prices. Tracks need to take the Bristol model of selling tickets.

What’s that model? Their tickets have never been cheap to my knowledge.

I think getting away from the gimmicks and getting back to something that resembles the NASCAR everyone used to love would go a long way.

I'm nowhere near the fan I used to be and nowhere near the caliber you guys are, but I agree with this to an extent. The 1.5 mile tracks are killer for me for starters. I get the Darlington and N. Wilkesboro are small, but those were my favorite tracks growing up, not counting Bristol since I lived just 20 minutes away. I didn't care that much for Charlotte or Atlanta before California, Vegas, Kansas, Texas, Miami and Chicago came along. I have never been to any live event more boring than the 2013 Coca Cola 600.

That said, I'm torn on the cars themselves. I don't know why they get new packages every year, but the similarities bring some of the excitement down. I wish they could be a little more interpretive with the rules to allow more individualized tinkering. But I get it financially. Penske, Gibbs and Hendricks have all the money. The sport needs the Wood Bros, Furniture Row, etc on the low end to be competitive, not to mention how important it is to keep the middle class guys like Stewart-Haas, Rousch, RCR and Petty in the fold.

I honestly don't understand the point system at all anymore. I never liked the idea of the Chase, but the segments and everything else nowadays, I'm lost trying to figure all that out.

The cars and drivers need to have personality. Nascar started it's downward spiral when they went to the common template (for both the car and driver). I miss the days of arguing about Ford or Chevys having this or that advantage.

It's nearly impossible to keep up with. I never really liked the chase either. Now it's just plain horrible with the elimination rounds. And with this stage racing and the points that come with it NASCAR has put more emphasis on winning the stages than actually winning the race.

Honestly, the only thing wrong with the old point system is that they didn't award enough points for winning. It should have been like a 25 point dropoff from 1st to 2nd.
