The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

I know its a different era, but that hit looks like nothing compared to what Newman went through tonight
Did you see the closeup of the driver's side at the end of the video? The cars are much safer now, plus alot of those guys raced in football helmets, no fire suits, and street shoes.

Serious question do you also feel the same way about the Indy 500?
I ask because they are both as American as Hot dogs and apple pie. Nascar drivers are and have been for many years probably the most down to Earth next door neighbor type people and there's a large segment of the country who appreciates that.

Lulz, I'm not attacking America or NASCAR drivers or people who appreciate them.

The super speedway races do very little to differentiate drivers. The NASCAR "Super Bowl" is basically a crap shoot to avoid "the big one(s)" and get pushed to victory (or disaster). Just makes no sense to me and the quality of the racing is not very interesting to warrant the hype. I do realize that I'm likely in the minority on that, though.

Y’all that had me shook, not gonna lie. It’s absolutely nothing short of a miracle that man is still alive. I didn’t think much of that first hit and flip, but when he got plowed on the roll over I knew it wasn’t good and feared the worst. I just knew he had passed. That was the worst wreck I’ve ever seen next to Austin Dillon in the July race a few years back

Newman has the entire NASCAR world behind him. He’s going to feel outpouring support during his recovery. So glad for him and his family.

Not to be a downer but when something like this happens and you start searching for information about his condition you see things like 4 days ago him and his wife Krissy announced they would be amicably separating. So in your prayers remember his wife. Imagine the emotions that poor lady has gone through.

No your right. Most fans enjoy the "pack racing." 10-40 cars inches away from each other going over 200 mph. It's an adrenaline like any championship game that is in sudden death. Ironically the race had been extended because of NASCAR's rules.
I also will go on the record as saying that I don't think any of the drivers involved in this appear to have done anything wrong. And in that your point is shared by most people. They love the thrill of it but all are always fearful of "The Big One"

I agree I don't think any driver did anything wrong, if he had passed it would be sad for sure, but there wasn't anything the others could've done to avoid it. The only thing that could've been done is for Nascar to throw the yellow earlier but fans complained when they did that in the past

Blaney was extremely tore up in his interview. Also, while I’m not at all a fan of Denny, cut the man some slack on celebrating. I don’t think he or anybody knew the severity of the situation. There’s people tweeting the man death threats.

I think something like this happening will be instrumental in team spotters mindful of accidents. Not getting after the Gibbs team because there's not a more decent man than Joe Gibbs. There are spotters out there t in close proximity to other spotters and hopefully they will prevent something unintended like Hamlin celebrating a huge win if there's anything type of last lap accident.

Enjoy the win Denny and hopeful Ryan Newman the father of 2 daughters makes a full recovery.

I truly think Denny didnt know how bad it was, Also Gibbs gathering his team to pray before going out and celebrating was nice to see.

Agreed. His spotter was on twitter apologizing profusely and taking the blame for not letting him know sooner. Gibbs is a standup man. I’m not taking shots at them for it. It’s just crazy the lengths people go to after something like this

Glad his two girls have their Daddy after that. No doubt about it. There will be some good come from this. Hopefully Newman makes a full recovery. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious as to the extent of his injuries

People jumping on Hamlin need to stop. He had no idea what was going on at first. You could see his demeanor change just as he got back in the car to go to victory lane. He wasn't even smiling at that time. Hopefully Ryan makes a full recovery with no lingering effects but I'm actually shocked he's alive.

I don’t have a problem with Denny at all.

What I do have a problem with is Joe spouting that they didn’t know. BS Joe everyone knew, you were to concern with your own self interest.
