not like both sides haven't been doing this the last few years

(i think espn news has been covering it a little bit better than NFLN honestly)

Adam Schefter is saying the owners are now meeting between themselves on the next course of action. They really don't need this to go to the courts IMO, but I'm tired of the coverage this. So many people are saying one thing then minutes later they say something else. No one really knows whats going on I guess.

exactly. these are the kinds of talks which are kept behind strict doors and what's let out is only that which has been approved to be.

i was at least a little glad earlier to hear though ESPN saying in its report that one of the things that had been talked about was a new salary cap

What is the big hurry to get anything done now? They knew 2 years ago this was coming up.

i've been on them since this has been going on for 2-3 years now. still doesn't help for this to happen now though

Honestly, I don't think many people thought they would get anything done.

TrueOrange, you think they start the season on time?

I don't think we'll start on time, sounds like we'll miss some games.

sounds like 10 minutes to get that financial paperwork in or decertify

Yep, not going to happen. They need to give up hope on getting financial information from the owners.

it's still possible....but it's honestly not something I've been banking on

I watched the 2 years of talks about the salary cap (they led into this years CBA talk) steamroll and get nothing done
...honestly, I haven't been confident the two sides can get anything like this done without a longer period of time to work on it (more than a month), considering how far apart they seem to be on some of these issues on a big deal like this

so decertification prevents a lockout, interesting. what does that do to actual games in a sport business though?

Personally I don't think De Smith is qualified to lead the union, I see them as a dividing figure between a deal. I wish Upshaw was still here.

And I wish Taglibue was still here.

At least this sh-t gone done when it had to when he was here

....Goodell's probably just thinking about putting NFL teams in Europe

NFL free agency could happen sooner under one labor scenario - Peter King - SI.com

Interesting scenario to think about;

Should the negotiations here stall, and the players choose to decertify as a union, ownership would almost certainly declare their intentions to lock out the players. Then the players likely would move to get relief from U.S. District Judge David S. Doty in the form of an injunction. It's not certain what Doty would do, of course, but he has made some significant pro-player decisions while overseeing NFL labor. If Doty granted injunctive relief, he could likely rule that the league's last work rules were still applicable, or he could simply allow the NFL to institute a set of rules of its choosing. But it's a virtual certainty the NFL would appeal the injunction.

If the injunction survived the appeal process, the 2011 league year would start and the rules would include free agency and the ability to trade players.

Why mess with a good thing?

the owners want more money (players to take less), some other things

the players want better benefits (retirement), some other things

i dont have enough to list them all out

lot of noone trusting each other...recently the owners feel that the PA was just working towards being able to decertify and go to court; the PA thinks - after seeing the $4 billion the owners were originally trying to get from the TV deals in case of lockout - that the owners were just trying to lockout the players all along (and "starve" them till they bent and broke)
