The Official Off The Trump Train Thread

You could get it rolling. My guess is you would give him all the excuses in the world. He didn’t even try when he controlled all of government. He allowed planned parenthood to continue. He allowed to increase the deficit.

Seriously there are several posters on here who actually believed the shut down was designed by trump to lay off tons of useless federal employees. Oops guess that was wrong. Shocking I know. How is draining the swap going again?

You must have me confused with some others. I for one dont expect presidents to live up to all or even most of their promises. Every president is a liar and a POS. Plain and simple. While he did have controll not all Rs supported his goals. That was definitely a roadblock. I think there is still a chance for a border wall. At least I certainly hope there will be one. The fact that almost all democrats oppose one is sickening.

As far as the shutdown? I could personally care less. Almost all government emplyees are overpaid (I am not saying most military). Shutdowns happen and life goes on. Increasing tge deficit? Thats just standard operating procedure for a president. Drain the swamp? Lol. That was fodder used to get him elected. Nothing more. Trump is a crooked businessman who was elected president. Hopefully he can get some more good things done before leaving office.

Actually the S&P 500 is typically flat during a shut down.

And it rose by 3% during Obama’s shutdown

Here’s how the stock market has handled past government shutdowns

The obama shutdown was over obamacare. What wasn't there for markets to like. There was nothing to control increasing medical costs ... money to be made on healthcare. Better, yet, obamacare dumped hordes of people into the laps of insurors ... including many who actually should have been rejected for preexisting conditions. It was literally like pumping gas on a blazing fire ... a lot of money to be made, so what wasn't to be liked by the markets dreaming of skyrocketing healthcare and insurance business with no cost containment in sight. Now a paltry 5.7B for some border wall - a drop in the bucket ... not worth getting out of bed for.

He should have done it when he had full control of government. He didn’t for one reason only. He thought it would hurt him during the midterms. Terrible miscalculation by him. He screwed the pooch.

I don't think that was the reason. Trump has never had the support of the congressional GOP. Remember Ryan, Corker, Flake, McCain etc. The were afraid of what an outsider might do to upset their little criminal enterprise. There's too much money to be made trading legislation for bribes, and they've been doing quite well at it; they didn't want blunder boy inadvertently screwing up a good thing.

Do you seriously think Trump has a chance? He's not getting his wall (his signature campaign promise), he's not repealing and replacing Obamacare (another promise), the stock market has started to sputter, and things are just going to get worse with Mueller.

Let's say he doesn't get his wall, who does the public hold responsible? Trump or the Dems who have so vocally opposed him. Same with the repeal of Obamacare,

Me personally, I don't care who wins(as long as it's not Hillary), because all we'll get, no matter who's in office, is more of the same. Politicians are not going to give up their games. But when it comes to placing blame, we know those who lean left will blame the right, and those who lean right will blame the left. Where those in the middle place the blame is totally up in the air and that's where the decision will be made. So yes, I think Trump has a chance.

I don't think it's that simple. I think the middle is split on the wall. What percentage wants it and what percentage doesn't is up for debate. And before you start reciting polls, we both know on something like this it's hard to really know how accurate they are. This goes beyond politics, beyond Dems and Republicans. I don't support the wall, but I know some who do. Believing everyone mirrors your opinion is what has gotten Dems in trouble the last few years, so you should be careful with your generalizations.

Trump won on two things: the base and the Clinton haters. The Clinton haters, who are independents that broke for Trump, are generally not wall people. Independents are pretty strongly against the wall. I can't imagine this shutdown will cause it to be viewed more favorably.

Dems couldn't imagine Trump getting elected. Surprise.
