The official Oregon Ducks thread (merged)

Oregon returns a lot of key players next year. Thomas, Barner, James, etc. and gains some weapons off of red-shirt. Might not be much of a drop-off.

Texas is supposed to have Alabama-like talent. But, they had trouble with UCLA.

Texas is struggling due to youth. They lost a ton of players in the draft. This team will likely play in and win a BCS bowl within the next 3 seasons.

Secondly, UCLA is the second most talented team in the Pac-10. They've recruited very well.

I agree with both of those points.

I'm just saying that shutting down UCLA the way Oregon did isn't insignificant. I mean, most people would call winning 13-33 an ample "shutting down." 13-60, not many teams could do "easily".

I'm not sure UCLA was even trying. Slick Rick would be a dead man walking right now if the Longhorns hadn't put the ball on the rug five times on their own half of the field, then twice more on downs not too far across the 50.

Look at what UCLA's done outside of Texas. They beat a Keenum-less Houston, lost by way of a 2nd half beatdown at KState and been utterly humiliated by Stanford and Cal.

If fluke wins exist in college football, I'm not sure there's a better example than UCLA winning in Austin.

Dunno about TCU. That TCU-Utah game near seasons end is shaping up to be a top 10 matchup. That could help either team a lot.

Denny Green "If you want to crown them, go ahead and crown their azzzzes!""" Nah they're good, but they're not unbeatable. They still have a few games in conference that might be tight.

If Oregon throttles USC (which I hope they do) then I will be a believer. Based on the competition they have played so far, the jury is still out.

There is something to be learned from their next game. Expect Oregon to win by a couple scores, but their secondary will be behind the 8 ball with Matt Barkley and the Trojans passing game. The Trojans have a capable offense. If the ducks defense halts them, then they will have gone a ways to back up their high defensive rankings.

That said, while Oregon is great at creating turnovers, their defense is still a fraud and will get shredded in Los Angeles. They will, however grab a couple picks and a couple fumbles which will be the difference.

I don't care if we're a bad SEC team. To have the ability to come into that environment and make the necessary adjustments after the 1st quarter and have their will with us. There's been some bad UT teams but for them to come in and hand us the largest home loss in Neyland history resonates well with me. I've watched every single Alabama game and every televised UO game and they have me convinced that they're the best team in the country.

They have the blazing speed at skill positions to literally run circles around unsuspecting opponents and will get smacked in the mouth by one of the few teams in the country that can shove them around on the lines. We've heard this song and dance before, it's just as loud as it has been since 2001 because Oregon is not standing in the once colossal shadow of USC.

It might not happen during the regular season, but come bowl time, there's going to be a good team with a great coach that will again completely outclass the Ducks on both lines.

The sad part for Oregon is that their home state has very quietly produced a lot of good linemen, particularly on defense, and Belotti was never able to sign them. Ndamukong Suh, Mike Remmers, Myles Wade, Ethan Johnson, Aaron Klovas, Andrew Roof, Mau Nomani, Stephen Schilling, Cameron Elisara, Cody Habben, the list goes on, Oregon always seems to whif on the local elite big men that could make them elite, and most of them end up going to play for the Beavers or Huskies instead.

Belotti was flat-out arrogant in his approach to local recruiting and frankly sucked at it and hurt his team in the process. Chip Kelly better pull a 180 with his methods or this is going to be a big, long repeat of Belotti's tenure, littered with underachievement.

Three straight 1 seeds have gone down. I'm betting my mortgage on the Trojans next week.

Oklahoma was only 1 in the computers books. Oregon will break the streak. USC will give us a tough game through 3 before depth and conditioning takes over and Oregon runs away with it in the 4th.

I don't know about you, Nightowl, but I'm pretty nervous about next Saturday. The Trojans are going to be amped.

The only thing that concerns me is their extra prep time. Historically we haven't fared well when a team had more then a week to prepare for us, especially when we had 5 less days then they did.

It being at the Colliseum doesn't scare me one bit. When it comes to atmosphere or fear factor... that place is a joke. I'd say it ranks 5th in the Pac-10 in intimidation/fear factor (Oregon, 'Zona, UW and Cal all have better home field advantages)

The fact that they routed Cal means nothing to me. They did that last year and we embarrassed them. And to me it kind of boils down to that... Since that (very, very one sided) night... Oregon has only gotten stronger, and USC appears to have lost ground (new coach, lots of new staff, lost a bunch of starters, etc.)

Every team that beat them last year, so far, has done the same thing this year. If Oregon plays to their potential... we have nothing to worry about.

Canzano?

*Looks at Oregons recent record against Beavers and Huskies*

We'd like to land every top recruit out of Oregon. But, we still don't have much to be sad about. :)

Belotti arrogant? Ego seems to be a requirement to HC in football. But, he seems relatively low key to me.
