The official Oregon Ducks thread (merged)

Anyways that's just my opinion so just enjoy the ride. Lord knows you guys couldn't get it much easier. If you don't win the NC this year it ain't never going to happen.

So you think scoring 27 points on a defense as thin as ours is lighting it up.:lolabove: I know taking out the James run is sacrilege , but it was a freak busted play.

No, I think "If you hadn't scored 27 points.... you wouldn't have lit us up" is a worthy of a laugh. It's a funny qualifier.

"If they had just scored less points we wouldn't have gotten lit up!!" Well.... Yeah.... Duh.

And about that "freak busted play"

YouTube - Oregon's LaMichael James 2009 Football Season Highlights

There are a dozen other teams complaining about a "freak busted play" of one sort or another.

He' right. SC and Cal are down, the schedule is vary favorable with the toughest opponents coming to Autzen.

The Pac-10 is a solid conference this year, did a very good job in non-conference showings.

But between all that and the probability that SEC doesn't have a team in the national title game, Oregon needs to win it this year if they want to elevate their program, there won't be another shot for a while.

Agreed 100%

there won't be another shot for a while.

Oh really? Face it. Oregon's stockpiling ammunition and digging in. I'm not saying we're there yet but face it... with USC's recent downturn there is a power vacuum out west. Oregon is starting to fill it. They haven't done so yet. But that is the direction things are headed. We'll see if it holds up....

Chip Kelly is recruiting well, at Oregon's all-time best level in fact, but there's still a long way to go before he fills Pete Carroll's shoes.

Elite talent and depth on defense will be the difference.

And with the Ducks defense, I was not wholly impressed last night. Shutting down UCLA like that isn't difficult, there isn't much more they can do other than run it down the middle about 45-50 times a game. Most of Brehaut's numbers came late when Oregon was between 2nd and 3rd strings.

The Pac-10 is looking weaker and weaker as the season drags on.

Awful season across college ball as a whole. Great year for Oregon to be decent. They might never have to face an actual defense.

If Auburn were to play Oregon, I'd have to take the Ducks.

Auburn - 40.7 PPG
Oregon - 54.3 PPG

Auburn - 24.4 points per game allowed
Oregon - 16.3 points per game allowed

Auburn - #9 in the nation in total offense
Oregon - #1 in the nation in total offense

Auburn - #64 in the nation in total defense
Oregon - #36 in the nation in total defense

Yeah, them 3-2 SEC games sure is fun to watch, ain't they Jasper?

No they are not, but neither is watching Auburn and Arky play flag football. I hope to everything good and holy that the whole SEC doesn't turn into that disgrace. Which is pretty much all football played west of the Mississippi. I do love to see those great, hard hitting, physical football games that we do have. Where teams actually try to stop the other team from scoring.

You should go ask the Vols if Oregon was physical. I specifically remember comments about how they were surprised that while the Ducks were fast, they were phyiscal too.

Yeah, blowouts against the least talented team in the SEC are always solid.

Fact is the Ducks still have yet to play anybody other than Stanford, who manages to offset some glaring weaknesses with an alright running game and the country's best QB.

The meat of the Ducks schedule is still ahead of them.

What I said had absolutely nothing to do with Tennessee's talent.

A team is going to look great in every way when the discrepancy in talent, and especially depth, is that high.

...I was talking about the OP's claim that Oregon isn't physical. I was talking nothing about talent or the outcome of the game. I was simply stating that Tennessee's players conceded that Oregon was, in fact, a physical team, disproving a common misconception.

Bingo. Look man you like watching this crap and I dont. To each his own. Like I said in the other thread you guys don't win it this year it ain't gonna happen. The way this thing is shaking out there is not one team with a decent defense in your way. Just be glad the SEC meatgrinder is working.

I've seen them twice last year and once this year, and they did not look like a physical team to me.

If they were physical, last year, they would have stopped the Great White Hope from running where he wanted at will and giving him a trip to New York, defeated Ohio State, and this year they would have stopped Dennis freaking Erickson's squad from torching them for 600 yards.

Oregon is the fastest, best conditioned team in the country, no doubt, and absolutely one of the best out there. But I have seen nothing yet to convince me they are good enough to win a national title, there are still at least 4-5 teams out there I'm certain could manhandle the Ducks on both lines.

Oregon vs. Auburn would be a fun game.

I think Alabama will beat Auburn though. I'm predicting Oregon vs. Alabama in the NC game as I think Bama will pass TCU and BSU even with 1 loss.

Oregon returns a lot of key players next year. Thomas, Barner, James, etc. and gains some weapons off of red-shirt. Might not be much of a drop-off.

Texas is supposed to have Alabama-like talent. But, they had trouble with UCLA.

stanford has a truly horrible defense. if they roll through the rest of the schedule like this i'll be convinced.

My friend, you have a serious case of the moving-the-goal-posts syndrome.

If the Ducks win the NC, you'll say that they need to cure cancer for you to be convinced. But, I guess that's what conference rivalry is all about. :)

I guess I haven't felt much need to defend the perception of Oregon lately. It's a good sign when disgruntled fans have to cite fantasy games in order to imagine them losing. :eek:lol:

Besides, it only helps the team if their opponents start believing they are over-rated.
