The Official PlayStation 5 Thread

But at least with Gamepass, streaming is just an additional option. It's not your ONLY option, which is my issue with PS3 games on PS Plus Essential.
It is annoying for sure. At least the new structure is a price drop to get Now and plus. Sony still has ground to make up though.

In case anyone didn't know or is interested, Sony has updated the PS5 with VRR (variable refresh rate) support. If you don't know what that is, basically it means if you have a TV that is VRR compatible, it ensures that your TV's refresh rate will adjust in real time 1:1 with whatever framerate the game is operating at. This helps minimize or eliminate frame stuttering and screen tearing and provides an overall smoother gaming experience. This is a cool and very long overdue feature for PS5.

Also, while the VRR setting operates at a hardware level and will help all games to one degree or another, several games have also been patched to take even greater advantage of the feature by allowing higher framerates. Here's a list of games that have received VRR specific patches on PS5 with more to come...

I mean if you want one that bad you should have no problem paying someone well over retail for one.
I am not paying $1,000 for a PS5. I'll pay the retail price, but not a penny over. I'm about to hop on the XBox train if Sony doesn't figure their sh*t out soon.

I’ll give it a little worse than that but I don’t wanna start a debate so what’s the next best game or most anticipated game to come out on PS5?

God of War Ragnarok will be the next huge AAA game and I'm very much looking forward to it. It's still slated to come out this year but I have a sneaking suspicion that it might slip into 2023.

Also, there's a game coming in October by Square/Enix called Forspoken that looks interesting. I'm looking forward to learning more about that one as well.

Meanwhile I'm currently playing Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 and really enjoying both quite a bit.

Gran Turismo brings back some memories for me. The first custom car game if I’m not mistaken

I jumped, and bought a Series S. No regrets so far. Gamepass keeps me with more than enough to play.

Wow! Finally, 1440p. They need to hurry up and get this out.
Yeah, I already bought a HDMI 2.1 monitor, but still happy they have brought this to PS. 1080p cap with VRR is disappointing, but hopefully they can improve on that at a later date.

Yeah, my monitor does 1440p @ 120hz now by somehow tricking the ps5 into thinking its a 4k monitor when it's not, so I probably won't see any difference, but it will be nice to have as a default option.

Which HDMI 2.1 monitor are you rocking these days?

I got one of those fancy LGTV’s with low latency and 120hz support. I wonder if it’ll support 1440p at 120hz too.

If you have a 4K/120hz TV you were good the whole time. The whole point of this update is in the past the PS5 didnt natively support 1440p monitors at the hardware level. Which meant that if you were using a display that supported no higher resolution than 1440p, PS5 games would automatically default to 1080p, even if they were designed to run at resolutions higher than 1440p. The game had to be designed specifically to run at 1440p to get that resolution. Now with the new update, all games can run at 1440p at the hardware level if you choose to do so, but if you have a 4K TV why would you with all else being equal?

As for your question about 120hz at 1440p, I don't think thats automatic for every game, even with the new update. Developers would still have to unlock the framerate of their games to achieve higher frames. AFAIK, games with no 120hz mode will still have no 120hz mode unless they're patched. Likewise, games with a 120hz mode at say, 1080p will still only run at 1080p in that mode unless its patched. This update really only affects those using a 1440p specific display.

Would have no reason to. This really only affects 1440p monitors which flood the market.
Well I play on performance mode, so most games I play are at 1080p to support 60-120fps anyways. I meant that I wonder if they will allow you to go up to 1440p in order to maintain that fps. If I want to play in 4K at all, then I have to go to resolution mode and assume I’ll be playing 30fps in all of my games

What tv do you have? If your tv supports 1440p then yeah I would suppose you could.
