You're right. Just one swing and the game was tied. It's 9 games in and it's not the season ending game. Play for the post season not 2 extra innings in an ultimately meaningless game.
All of it is speculation. He was averaging 18 pitches per inning through 3 then had an 8 pitch inning in the 4th. So it’s just as likely he has quick inning. The feel of the game and TX’s swings up to that point didnt point to them causing him to have a bad inning. If he starts getting touched you make the change, but he deserved the opportunity to start the 6th.That's speculation at best. You don't push it this early ever. I would have been just as likely he had a bad inning.
Why? He proved he's a bonafide friday starter as a true frosh in his 3rd start and did his job. If he had a bad inning in the 6th you possibly screw his confidence and heathens here would be yelling they should have pulled him after 5.I think everyone wanted to see him finish the six not two more innings. With what he was showing today he should’ve stayed in.
Seeding is based on resumes, beating the #1 team is not meaningless and is in fact directly impactful for the postseason. You're right. Just one swing and the game was tied. 100% agree. He made a decision not based on emotion of the moment, but by thinking of the long term. This is a long season. He absolutely did the right thing pulling him. 81 pitches for a hard thrower like burns is plenty this early in the season. It sucks because it’s Texas, #1 team, payback, big time tournament, etc. But I’m sure the staff had Burns on a pitch count and they stuck to it even though he was dealing.
CTV has said several times he will never jeopardize a kids future, especially pitchers. Respect him for that even if it sucks when you want to win a big game the third weekend of the season.
Disagree. He proved he's a Friday starter, keep his confidence up. He's in his 3rd start of his career not Blade or even Dollander who've been through the ringer. All of it is speculation.
