The Official Shriners Children's Classic Weekend Game Thread (vs Texas Friday 8PM EST) (vs Baylor Saturday 4PM EST) (vs Oklahoma Sunday Noon EST)

Not burning arms would’ve been to keep Burns in. TX wasn’t even fouling him off.
You're right. Just one swing and the game was tied. It's 9 games in and it's not the season ending game. Play for the post season not 2 extra innings in an ultimately meaningless game.

Very surprised that runner at second was called out the way this game has been going.

I think everyone wanted to see him finish the six not two more innings. With what he was showing today he should’ve stayed in.

It sucks because it’s Texas, #1 team, payback, big time tournament, etc. But I’m sure the staff had Burns on a pitch count and they stuck to it even though he was dealing.

CTV has said several times he will never jeopardize a kids future, especially pitchers. Respect him for that even if it sucks when you want to win a big game the third weekend of the season.

That's speculation at best. You don't push it this early ever. I would have been just as likely he had a bad inning.
All of it is speculation. He was averaging 18 pitches per inning through 3 then had an 8 pitch inning in the 4th. So it’s just as likely he has quick inning. The feel of the game and TX’s swings up to that point didnt point to them causing him to have a bad inning. If he starts getting touched you make the change, but he deserved the opportunity to start the 6th.

Why? He proved he's a bonafide friday starter as a true frosh in his 3rd start and did his job. If he had a bad inning in the 6th you possibly screw his confidence and heathens here would be yelling they should have pulled him after 5.

Seeding is based on resumes, beating the #1 team is not meaningless and is in fact directly impactful for the postseason.

Just be patient guys , we beat ms state 12-0 in the tournament last year. It’s early and bottom line we can compete

He hasn’t shown a bit of being rattled or not having good stuff.

100% agree. He made a decision not based on emotion of the moment, but by thinking of the long term. This is a long season. He absolutely did the right thing pulling him. 81 pitches for a hard thrower like burns is plenty this early in the season.

Disagree. He proved he's a Friday starter, keep his confidence up. He's in his 3rd start of his career not Blade or even Dollander who've been through the ringer.

You should be the coach then.
Classic, intellectually lazy response. Just because I don’t coach D-1 baseball doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion on the nuances of the game and just because CTV is the coach doesn’t mean he doesn’t/hasn’t/won’t make coaching mistakes.
