The Official So Miss @ #1 Tennessee Volunteers Regional Game Thread (Sunday June 2nd 6PM EST) (TV SECN)

Evansville played badly tonight.

BUT

They have a better chance playing at noon on a Monday in a normally hostile environment than later in afternoon or evening.

Always remember, a team that puts up a ton of runs one game often has trouble manufacturing the next day.

I bet the Aces hang in there early on at least

He should delete this.
Wes makes some dumb posts at times. Especially when (as he is liable to do) he makes it all about himself instead of the game and the players. "[ I was] a bit surprised [that]..." "[ I ] thought [that]..."

Subtract that first-person singular stuff and all you have left is: "Dreiling was really good ... obviously." That's really lame.

What he should have talked about (Dreiling) was tacked on as vapid afterthought. Because he posted about his feelings again, instead of (in this case) the award winner.

They normally have to decide what half of the bracket starts on one day and what the next/

For instance, the 1 side (GO VOLS) of the bracket will start Friday and the 2 side (Kentucky yuk) would start Saturday or visa versa.

That start date would continue through to Omaha. The half of the bracket that started Supers on FRiday the 7th would play day one (June 14) in Omaha. The teams that started Supers on June 8 would have day 2 in Omaha on June 15th.

The Tennessee side of the bracket is 1,4,5, and 8
The Kentucky side is 2,3,6 and 7
Host noted in bold and underline

1 Tennessee / ECU or Evansville
8 Florida State / Connecticut or Oklahoma
4 North Carolina or LSU / Arizona West Virginia
5 Arkansas Kansas State / Virginia

2 Kentucky / Oregon State or UC Irvine
7 Georgia / NC State
3 Texas A&M / Oregon
6 Clemson / Oklahoma State or Florida

I'm guessing they'll start the Knoxville Super Region on Saturday as the other half of the bracket hosts are all known even if the visitors are not. The #4 super Region host will not be decided until Monday night when UNC/LSU game is over. I'm pretty sure the winner will be the Super host but the NCAA will make a show of it and make LSU wait until Tues day morning to make WVU or GCU think they have a chance to host.

With these assumptions, I predict Tennessee's first game in Omaha would be Saturday June 15th. I would be surprised if Tennessee as the 1 seed with tons of casual national attention were not the primetime game. Especially if the opponent were Florida State.
I edited the post with tonight’s winners so far

More thoughts
It woyld suck for West Virginia if LSU upsets UNC one more time. The NCAA would never turn down the Baton Rouge money. But I think WVU would handle red stick pretty well anyway.

The lower half of the Omaha bracket could be all SEC. You could hear all the Clemson sphincters tighten up if Florida wins again Monday and an SEC team is sent to the upstate. They already will be aggravated that they could face nothing but SEC teams in Omaha.

Georgia is not playing well right now. They’re still winning though. NC State could test them. Georgia got a very generous draw. They shouldn’t have been a national seed with their late season issues.

Same for North Carolina. They should have crushed LSU but haven’t.

Kentucky got a generous draw. They match up well with west coast style teams.

Great win for BaseVols last night. Dongs abound as Tennessee clubs SoMiss 12-3. Question: I was in the car for the first part of the game, listening to 104.5 The Zone in Nashville. The voice was not John Wilkerson, who finally came on the air right after Zander was struck by the batted ball. Who was the other guy? Not very good IMO.

N.C.State has the pitching go take down Georgia in a series.

Hopefully Oklahoma State sends Florida on Summer Vacation and UNC doesn't let the name LSU intimidate then for another game.

Oregon will not be scared of Texas A&M, Oregon's pitching was terrific in the Santa Barbara Regional. The pitcher last night three a 120+ pitch complete game to seal the deal.

Garner made a fool outta me when I had to guard him about 2 minutes when we played Bearden. Coach was smart enough not to have me guard Kent Hollenbeck
Sadly Coach Beeler could not figure out how to utilize my 5’7” 190 lb frame featuring 4.5 20 speed and a 14” vertical entering my SR year, one behind them. Bio clock kicked in late and peaked at 6’3” in college but no one ever associated athleticism and me.

Spoke with him briefly at a dedication to the Bearden baseball comple a few years back, went hoping to see his twin sisters from my class. They now all live in Houston.

Probably Vince Ferrara. He’s almost unbearable to listen to lol

2021 and 2023 both had the other team finish on Monday and our supers started on Saturday. That makes me think we’ll be on Saturday. The only thing that gives me pause is ecu won’t have to travel far to knox so maybe they keep it on Friday. Doubtful though

Three of the Supers have been decided so they can’t all play on Saturday can they? I guess it will come down to TV draw?

I don’t know much about them but they have a really really good ace.
Yep, Trey Yesavage.

6’4” 225 lb
11-1 W/L
2.02 ERA
145 SO’s

Only has around 2-3 games where he pitched and had less than 8 SO’s.
Uh oh. Lefty?
Righty that can get up close to 100 MPH. What makes him so good is his slider/curveball combo that he pairs with the fastball. He’s good.

Well said. Wes loves him some Wes.

For those wondering...

Dreiling hit an incredible seven-of-13 (.538) with two home runs, two doubles, three RBIs and three walks.

Stark hit three-for-10 (.300) with three home runs, five RBIs, three walks and one hit-by pitch.

Moore hit 4-of-13 (.318) with one home run, one double, four RBIs and four walks.

Amick hit two-for-11 with two home runs, a team-best 11 RBIs, four walks and two hit-by pitches.

Ensley hit five-of-12 (.417), one home run, two doubles, two RBIs and four walks.

Curley hit 4-of-12 (.333), two home runs, five RBIs, and one hit-by pitch.

Dreiling absolutely deserved the MVP. He scored a run in every game (5 total) and he had at least 2 hits in every game (7 total)

Late to the party , we were at all 3 games and the crowds were good but I’m hoping we /they ramp it up next weekend , gutsy performance by Zander and of course home runs are always fun
Gave my all—- a bit horse this morning. Crowd was pretty electric but will be louder at Supers.

I just don’t have a problem with Wes and think it’s bizarre how some do. It’s like they want to dislike him, so they come up with reasons to, no matter how ridiculous.

He “makes it about him” because he uses first person pronouns? Seriously? 😂🤣

Columnists provide opinions. The opinions they provide are THEIRS. Wes is a columnist. When one provides one’s own opinion, one must, by virtue of the rules of English grammar, use the first person in order to convey that the opinion is his. This is elementary.

So basically, the problem with Wes is, he’s doing his job. Too many in this fan base just want to be mad at something.
